Well at 6:10 the body went onto the frame. Somehow it fits like a glove.

The trailer measures 94" nose to tail with a fuzz over 7' on the floor.

Measuring from nose to axle I get 55 inches from axle to rear 39"

so I am about 59% forward and 41% rear and I was shooting for 60 / 40 I guess I can live with it

It rolls 4 - 6 bolts and I can take it for a spin

We will have to have a road test. Put a small cabinet in the rear nothing fancy just a good place for a simple electrical chase and some storage.

It is finally temporaly covered with a tarp and out of the rain.

I know pics , pics maybe in the AM been the day from HELL I an gonna celebrate with a few barley pops and chill out.

This trim piece was in the way so I ground off 2
dozen pop rivets to get it off the floor pan


and it came off :shock:


and so did the pan :shock:


These little flip things flip up and down like a
real light weight tailgate hinge. Anyone have
a clue what this little trailer was in it's former
life ?


a quick hit with the grinder and it was
gone what ever it was :thumbsup:


Here is the underside , note the single u bolt around
the axle on each side . It shocked me a bit too !


Here is the rear profile with the rounded return.
The box is up on blocks ready to slide the trailer under.

Here is that rear cabinet. The roof will make the back
wall and the solid vertical panel in the pic will be cut
out for 2 cabinet doors or maybe a slider. Yes the shelf is sagging 1x2's will be added
underneath to act as strongbacks for the shelf.

Bob, I wonder if it was one of those mini tent trailers?

The deck looks like aluminum? Perfect for what you're doing.

It is aluminum sheeting with 3 heavy wall aluminum ribs as seen in the pics. I think the aluminum pan (shown removed) was the floor of what ever was on on top. Maybe a mini flop out motorcycle type camper. But why the front AND rear hinges for mini tailgates. They are ultra light and would not hold any amount of weight. There were also spring loaded to snap back up. The old gal I bought it off of had no clue what it was originally. It was just the hubbys junk hauler before he passed on.

I think my 195 pound frame is now down to #180.

The box is on and it will go for a cruise yet this evening.

Bob, its what is left of an old Apache tent trailer. The hinge thinge were stabilizers on the front and back. It's the same trailer that we started with on our build. Looks good.

My mechanical minded little brain has to know ..... How do those stabilizers work did thet store in the tubes or just a clip on thing. Do ya have any idea.

As promised the tiny sleeper went for a road trip about 6:00 P.M. Saturday. Still just a shell without a roof but it rolls


Got curious and decided to hook it to the Goldwing and see how well the bike would pull it. Took it around our tiny hamlet to the surprise and amazement of a few neighbors outside doing yardwork. It handled extremely well and while I didn't get crazy and kept my speed down I negotiated several city blocks and even an alleyway to see what it would do no uneven ground. I survived and came home smiling.

Not bad for 13 days into the build !

I know some folks don't care and some folks agonize over it but the trailer named it's self today. Since it is a sleeper unit only ( sans Galley) I decided to name it after a very famous sleeper................

That's great that the Wing is able to pull it. I dont think we would have that kind of luck trying to pull ours with a Sporty. On my trailer the stabilizers went into the tubes.

This post has been ignored for 3/4 of a year.

Weather is still very liquid here but this weekend was condusive to getting a bit done.

I scored 10 sheets of 4x9 pebble finished FRP panel and started getting creative with it. First thing was to drape a layer over the 4x7 to help protect it a bit from the weather.



As you can see it doesn't cover so it will need to be split and a center strip added similarly to the way Chubby was constructed but my temporary roof will offer a bit more weather protection than the fly away tarp did.

With The Crossroads of America gathering just a couple months away I have to turn my attention to the chuck wagon next.

Well I guess I will be bored this weekend so it might be time to get something done on Rip van Winkle.
The Chuckwagon is campable and has had it's shake down cruise to the Crossroads of America gathering so it's time to think about this little 4x7.

If I target it to be the camper of choice for our fall outing it just might get me motivated.....

$$$$$ is the big issue. I don't want to tear off the roof as it is protecting the floor (somewhat) from the weather
and right now I don't have the funds to dedicate to the needed materials.
