It seems none of the trailers found at "retail" stores have brakes.
Where Do I get a trailer with brakes?

Or how do I add them to a reatil trailer from HF, Fred Meyer, or red trailers ?

You can add brakes to most trailers for very little money. As long as you have a 4 hole flange on your axle you have what you need. I added brakes to my torsion axle for 300 bucks including the brake controller in the tow vehicle and that was installed my a trailer company.

I mean out of the "Kit" trailer are there any that can be ordered with brake, or easily retrofitted.

I'm asking because I've read somewhere here that the Harbor freight trailer can't.

Thanks.

I don't know of any pre made trailers that come with brakes. But just look at the flange on the back of the hub to see if there are 4 holes. Then just add the brake kit.

Most likely you will have to replace axle that comes with low end utility trailer frames with a axle designed to have brakes installed on axle....Check out link below and note 4 hole flanges on axle to mount brakes on.... You also have to have drums/hubs that fit axle for brake size desired (7 or 10 or 12 inch) and I seriously doubt you will find a hub/brake drum that will fit the HF or Red trailer spindle...

You might look at some the "discount" trailer parts suppliers on internet to see if a reasonable replacement axle is available for you low end utility trailer frame....

Northern Tool had whole section for axles hubs drums and brake parts, also there is "E-Trailer" and maybe a few others....

There is a whole world out there of parts, you just have to come to grips with fact your low end utility trailer axle is not capable of having brakes on it and you will have to replace it........

Check out the "Reliable" brand for brakes, axle and assorted parts....

Depending on the weight of your trailer and your tow vehicle going without can be hazardous to your health. Better safe than sorry.

Here's a string with many different thoughts:

Yeah, I really rather have the brakes, it just seem to be more complicated than expected.

Step up to a more sophisticated trailer, maybe ordered with brake option you want or have one custom build to your specification....

I think RedTrailers might accommodate you with what you need as they have done that for others. However, the closest sales outlet is in Vista, CA (down near San Diego) and the shipping cost might be too much. None the less, you might give them a call and see what you can find out. (215-538-1155) I suspect you'd have to pay for assembly, which is somewhere around $150, plus a little extra for the upgrades.

If you look on the internet and find some trailer kits sold by companies who also sell axles and brakes, you can always ask them. The worst they can say is "No". Frankly, I wish I had done that.
