Galley Lid Latch Strike Plate

Postby Blackjack » Mon Jul 19, 2010 1:40 pm

I purchased the slam type or galley lid latch with T-handle lock. What I have not seen is the strike plate that the latch goes into. Has anyone seen one or does everyone that uses this make their own?

I'm pretty sure that one came with my handle but it should be easy to make. I would take a 4s blank electrical cover and cut a rectangular piece about 2" x 3". Then cut a small rectangular "hole" in the center of it (about 1" x 1/2") and pry up one side of the hole to create a lip for the latch to catch onto. On mine I created a little recess where the "hole" in the plate is to allow the latch to more fully extend. BTW, When I'm on the road, I pull a bungie cord over the top of the T-handle for added security in case the latch were to bounce loose. The ends of the bungie cord are inserted into holes on the rear corners of the trailer frame. If this is unclear I'll try to post a picture soon. Good luck!
