Got my frame yesterday

I finally got my frame home yesterday. Except for one small issue that should be easily overcome, I am very happy. Here are the stats:

- 58in wide (my sidewalls are 1 in thick) by 96 in.
- 2 x 2 x 1/4 steel tube
- 4 receiver tubes (1 in each corner). I will probably add another off the back, but I don't know how much overhang my body will have right now (11 ft. long body).
- adjustable coupler so I can keep the trailer level no matter the tow vehicle height.
- flexride torsion axle 2000 lbs.

The walls are done, the electrical and interior are planned and straightforward. Hopefully this will look like more than a painted pile of scrap lumber in a couple weeks! WooHoo!

Very nice. Getting the frame really makes you feel you are on the way to teardrop construction. Good luck with the rest of your build. Please start a build thread and post pictures.

I wish that I had receiver tubes welded to the sides of mine.

Almost a year of planning is paying off. I think we will see a lot more of these from new builders.

My original name for the project is "Shiny Diner", but I'm thinking of calling it "Stolen Designs" - I have a couple of original ideas for the interior, but the frame ideas and profile are straight from this forum...and boy am I ever grateful! I am having an absolute blast building this thing. I have a 5 yr. old son who can't wait to camp in it and 2 yr. old twins behind him. I go out to the garage every night after everyone goes to bed and get lost in it just imagining the good times to be had. Thank you again!

That was one of the ideas and it expoloded in another post. The title was something like "commercial builders here is an idea for you " We had grill mounts, canoe racks , hell we even got crazy and moumted pontoons for a lake going teardrop it was a really neat thread with a bunch of great ideas. I think it sprang forth from this one. I went looking but couldn't drag it up.

My reason was mainly for the shade. I like the pontton idea! Waterproofing nightmare, but fun! I have an idea in my head for a removable rack to carry a kayak on top without permanently fixing anything to the trailer. I also have an idea for a changing room, possibly a solar panel holder, table and grill mount. Plus a few things I am sure to come up with after using a few times!

Instead of building pontoons just mount it on two canoes, I think two 17 footers would be able to carry a 500 lb teardrop pretty easily. Although I don't know how you would carry two 17 foot canoes and a teardrop, unless you use the receiver hitches to mount an over head rack to hold them.

A word of warning, if you carry the yaks on the TD, how will you move them once you set up camp? That is, if your sight isn't close to the water.

dh - no problem on moving the yak while at camp. I have racks set up on the TV so I can move it at camp. Also I have a cart if I need to drag it down the beach or a trail. I am looking at a bike trailer for it as well for down the road. The reason I would use the kayak is if I had more than one kayak to bring or I wanted to come home from work and have everything loaded and ready to go. I also usually go with other people so there are multiple vehicles that can haul the yaks to the launch points. Thanks.
