Door width and location

Postby Baz » Wed Jul 28, 2010 5:01 pm

I am building my TD and was wanting to know if there is any scientific location to install the doors. The TD is 11ft.X5' I figured about 30" from the front and 40" tall. Any recomendations. Thanks.

I chose my location in front of the wheels, where if I sat in the doorway and laid back, then spun into a lying position, I didn't have to make any fore or aft adjustments to my position.

The formula is age + fat squared = door size.

Seriously, the older you get, they bigger you want your doors to be.

Also, if your mattress is six inches thick, make the bottom of the door lower than six inches, so you sit down on mattress, not door frame.

I made my doors 30 inches. Seemed like a standard size. 40 inches tall.

How far from the front did you start the cut for the opening?

28" wide works for me.

Bottom of the door is halfway up the mattress, and the top of the door is 3" down from the roof.

As for location, what Cliff said. You can start with the front edge of the door 16" from the head of the mattress, and then adjust to make things work.

One more thing. Where can I get a couple of items. Windows for my doors and a reliable fender company. Thanks.

How thick are your doors going to be? If you go 1 7/8" you can use standard camper windows. Or better yet, used camper windows whichI've seen going for around $30 each at some of the big RV dealers for the dark tinted sliders.
