New Old Guy

Hi! I've been lurking on here for several weeks and finally decided to join. I currently do not have a trailer, shop, or even the money to build either (wife has been out of work for 18 months!) but I just couldn't resist getting in on the fun. Just lurking to me seemed like I was standing outside a big party watching everything through a window.

So, about me: I've been married to the same woman for 25 years. Most know her as Anna, but to our grandkids she's Nana, and I'm Papi. We met in Hawaii, dated for about 3 months, and tied the knot. When it's the right one, ya just know it! We have 3 grown boys and three wonderful daughters-in-law. Oh yeah, a grand daughter and grandson, and one to be determined later on the way. So, as empty nesters, we're ready to enjoy life!

So my son in law is from Brazil and he is called Papi by his daughter, the Portuguese name for Daddy. Good name! Welcome!

Thanks for the welcome!

nevadatear: What part of Brazil? My grandparents were missionaries in Recife and Fortaleza. My granddaughter came up with calling me Papi. She just started calling me that and it stuck.

The big city. Rio. He is an urban boy, can't get him interested in camping. He has lived about half his life in US and half in Brazil. Our granddaughter is growing up bilingual. He speaks Portuguese to her and our daughter speaks English. At two she knows and amazing number of words in both languages and has no problem switching back and forth. Amazing what kids can learn if you do it at an early age. So we are learning some Portuguese too! Vovo is grandpa! Sort of like Volvo without the"l". Don't know how you pronouce "papi", maybe poppy, but in portuguse it is "Puh pie." with the accent on the second syllable. Anyway, not to hijack your thread, welcome again to the wacky world of teardrops!

Yeah, kids are amazing. Maddie pronounces it "poppy". They learn the most when young. too bad we don't keep that velocity at learning in our old age.

Bridge Mill (Canton). I am looking forward to all this! My wife remains skeptical that I can actually build anything. That gives me more incentive to actually pull it off!

Welcome, Papi. Good to see more folks from up this way, (well, sort of up this way). No better incentive than proving to your better half that you can do it.

Thanks for the welcome! My wife is originally from Greenville. Small world! What's really amazing is we grew up 200 miles apart, but met and married in Hawaii, where we were both living at the time. We met in February, went out on our first date in March, and married in August. It'll be 25 years in 2 weeks. All those years together, and she still doesn't think I can build a teardrop. Gives me plenty of incentive!
