New in Texas

Postby Aggiebuiild » Sat Jul 31, 2010 11:47 am

I wanted to introduce myself. I am Jana in Austin, Texas and just purchased a vintage '46 or '47 Kenskill teardrop. I have been looking on and off for a few years to purchase a teardrop to rebuild and I just found a great one. I have done a lot of research in the last two weeks and am excited about the job ahead, even though this is all new to me. This forum has been great resource in my research and I couldn't wait to join when my trailer purchase was complete. I have a lot of questions already for anyone with experiece with vintage rebuilds. I will post pictures soon.

Oh, great -- another aggie.

Welcome to the club. There is a pretty active group of campers here in Texas. Come on out to a gathering! Here's the list for 2010...

Looking forward to camping

Postby Aggiebuiild » Sat Jul 31, 2010 1:34 pm

Yes, another Aggie -- actually a whole family of aggies (just 3 of us) who are going to help me with my Build! Better hurry with my renovation/build so I can viist a camping event!

I have not worked out the timeframe yet, wishfully thinking by next April. We have some other projects going, but I have a lot to learn and decisions about how I want to restore.

Would love advice and thoughts on restoring a old trailer.

Don't wait until you are built to come to a gathering. Tent camp with us at Loyd Park in September, and at LCG5 in October.

Why? Because you will learn WAY more from spending time with other teardroppers than you can just being online with us. You can look at, touch, climb into other tears, and ask why people did what they did.

There will be about 30 TDs at Loyd Park, and about 80 at LCG5. If you tent camp, you won't need your own campsite. You can pitch a tent on one of our sites.

If you don't have a tent, several of us have tents -- you can borrow one.

Texas Gatherings

Postby Aggiebuiild » Sat Jul 31, 2010 4:44 pm

Thanks for the info about the Loyd Park gathering in September. We do camp and have mutli tents -- that is why I am doing a teardrop for me! If we can make it work for September, would love to come and to meet the people I have been reading about. I am catching up on build threads as I make my build plans.

Welcome, Jana! Glad to have you onboard.

The Kenskill profile is really beautiful. I can't wait to see your restoration.

As far as another Aggie, as the saying goes, "the more, the merrier." There's even a handy gig'em emoticon to use on postings. Maroon text is another nice option that we have. (For some reason it is called "dark red.")

Don't let that stop you from visiting. My wife and I have stopped in on about six or seven outings and tent-camped at one. Everyone made us feel welcome even though we didn't have a teardrop.

BTW, thanks for the nice comments you posted on my build thread.
