Kitchen sink and fridge

I am building my TD and am thinking on putting in a sink and fridge. I was wondering after I layed the kitchen out if and how much I would use this sink and fridge For thous of you that have one are you glad you did, and for thous of you that decided not to put one in are you wishing you did. I know this all deoends on your particulars. Every time I camp it seems that dishes are often done on a picnic table. Please advise.

Fridge, yes (but other's disagree, ha).

Sink, no. Big old pressure cooker serves as reheatable dishpan and shower water heater. Solar powered if painted black and leftout in the sun. Sink not required IMHO.

If you don't want a sink, something like this to move the water spigot closer to your gally might be helpfull.



Also, remember, a lot of places (at least here in AR) will not let you dump grey water on the ground, so if you have a sink you will need a way to capture the grey water.

Nancy loves the sink and water heater, as clean up after meals is as simple/quick as it is at home. Most wives that have see our galley loved it. A fridge vs. cooler is much less a livability issue, they both serve the same function with not much more effort for a cooler. The new MM has a gas electric water heater, pull out faucet and larger sink.

...we put a sink in our first tear and all it did was become a catchall...don't use a fridge either cause of real estate issues...a good point was made about a grey water catch system.............

I'm with you on both points.

You loose so much counter space with a sink that could easily be replaced/corrected with a Plastic Dish tub (or two) on the Picnic table.



Though this trailer is long gone I don't even Cook in the Tear anymore.

That Picnic table is a wonderful thing.

In the barn the mini galley presented a few challenges. With only 2 1/2 feet of counter it wa time to regroup a bit. Leaving the redneck hot water heater was not an option with ol' what's her name so here is the "stageing area.



The 40 cup coffee maker is a great dispensing hot water heater. The little round ball you see on the counter below seperates into two 10" mixing bowls. Great for food prep and later become the wash and rinse sinks.

Even with the teardrop being sink equipt ol' what's her name uses her little mixing bowl sinks ( If ya look close the 2nd one is IN the sink)

The redneck hot water heater has gone on each and every outing since day one and is one of those "Don't leave home without it" items

Disposal of food ladened waste water off in the weeds is an invitation to all the nocturnal little critters. Skunks have a liability issue all their own and raccoons are destructive little thieves to name a couple. At least we don't have bear problems in indiana.

I wipe the majority of the food waste from the plates , bowls , ect. before washing so very little "food" is actually in the water. As we always have a campfire , the paper towel ladened with the food waste goes directly into the fire. The grey water goes into the fire ring near the edge and I have never been challenged by a park ranger dowsing an "out of control " fire

Hmm, I've been hauling it to the bath house and flushing it...

A board can go over the sink but when you have 6' to work with there is still lots of room.

We have a sink and would not be without it. It is as far to the side as practical and we have fresh and gray water tanks. It is used mainly for rinsing cups and beer mugs, brushing teeth, washing hands. Many things that you never think about. Washing dishes is done in a plastic dish pan as most others on the picnic table.
