Hi Micro,

Where'd you find those. It would be nice to find a Canadian product to save on the cross border shipping hassles.

Here is my frame.
Image
2X2X1/8 tube for the frame and cross members, 2X3X3/16 for the tongue and 2X2 angle for the tongue braces.

I haven't been building yet, but am looking pretty closely at widening Andrew's cub (Thanks Andrew). Here's the plan sheet modified and detailed to fit the Dextor axle I already have (59 inchs out-to-out on the frame face). I'm really looking for lightweight as my tow vehice is a Honda Element rated at 150 tongue and 1500 gross.Image

Critter...since you have to have a cross member to mount the stub axles on, what is their advantage...if you going to be doing off-roading, you might want to consider a 3500# axle with springs and shocks...you could remove a leaf to get the weight carrying factor right and have the heavier tube for off road strength

A lot of axles are made this way just make sure you burn or drill some holes in the tube so you can weld the rear of the stub in the tube. The only drawback is that unless you have a way to bow the tube a little in the middle you will have no camber in the wheels.(laying it in the driveway with a thin block under each end and driving over it comes to mind) Not a big deal, however it makes the highway towing a bit less stable, you might get a little sway.

hey all,
i thought about welding the back of the stub axle by drilling 4 1/2 holes about 5 in back, but i didnt think about bending the axle tube,do you think bending would be necessary, already bought the 1500 lb leaf springs w/mounting kit.

the camber that the bend provides will help with trailer stability when towing...it will help prevent swaying...all you need is just the slightest of bends...upwards at dead center of axle...if you can't get this bend accurately, it is probably better to not do a bend at all...

hey all
being that the tube im usig for axle is 3/16 thick i think itll be kinda hard to bend,or is it something it would be worth taking to town to get it bent?

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm  personally I would prefer it but I don't know how worth it, it is(really hate a swaying trailer though)...if you do decide on bending, remember that only a slight bend is necessary...like 5degrees...and remember to locate top dead center when mounting axle stubs...the bend goes up when mounting...

It's hard to say, you might not get any then again it might be enough to be annoying. Unlikely that it would be enough to be dangerous tho. I'd say you could mount it and tow it and see how it works out. You can always take it off and put a bow in it.
