Houston, TX

I've been lurking quite a while and decided to jump in. I'm a bit of a woodworker, a bit of an electronics geek, and a frustrated wannabe engineer. A teardrop and I were made for each other.

Inspiration is in no short supply here. There are so many nice builds. I'll be stealin' ideas left and right. :)

I'm about 6+ months away from starting. I'm in the middle of a garage makeover that needs to be finished before I start on any new projects. That will give me time to source the trailer to use as my base. If I jump on the garage and get that done, maybe I can squeeze the beginning of the TD build in this winter. Houston summers are brutal. It's 9:30 and it's already too hot to work in the garage. :o

Thanks to all that have posted the pics of their builds. It's greatly appreciated and I'll repay that by posting tons of pics myself.

Is there anyone in the Houston area willing to give me a tour of their teardrop? It would be greatly appreciated.

Since you'll be starting in a couple of months Jim - I know it a long way from Houston - but LCG V in Louisiana is just around the corner in October - come on up and you'll see more teardrops than what you can shake a stick at!

I'm not sure what part of Houston you are in, but there are a few TDs in the area that are regulars at gatherings. Off the top of my head, there are TDs in Magnolia, Friendswood and Pearland.

caseydog, I'm in Copperfield which is on the west side near 529 and 6.

Shoot. I came thiiiiiis close to reserving one of the two remaining sites. I even Mapquested it and saw that it's a hair over 5 hours from Houston. Road trip!

As I was calling home to tell the wife I was going camping in October, I realized the date. My son't b-day is 10/28. We have inventory at work that week/weekend, and it's Halloween. Unfortunately, I have to stay in town that weekend. It sounds like a BLAST!

I'll be on the lookout for other gatherings.

Also, if anyone in the Houston area needs help with their TD, I'll donate my time to get some hands on experience with it. Perhaps a small get together of a few TDs to work on projects you've been putting off? A TD "geek out" of sorts?

I know where Copperfield is. SonetPro is up near Magnolia, maybe 30 minutes from you. He has a nice, very traditional TD.

Come on up to Loyd Park on the South side of Dallas in September, and pitch a tent. We have bout 25 teardroppers coming to that gathering. I beleive you can pitch a tent in one of our sites, and only pay for your basic park fee and vehicle pass. We have a whole loop reserved, with a large pavilion in the middle.

Here is a link to all of our 2010 SouthCentral gatherings.

Thanks a bunch, CD! That gathering is timed perfectly, and it's a little closer as well. Ya can't beat that. :)

Also, thank for the offer to pitch the tent on your site. That's very neighborly of you. Of course, I may be cussing you a year from now when I'm neck deep in my build and I realize you were the one to encourage the madness. :?
