Insurance question and new here!

Postby lgna70 » Wed Aug 04, 2010 1:32 pm

Hi everyone, yes, its true, i am one of the lurkers! I plan to purchase and pick up a Little Guy 5 Wide Platform this weekend, if of course, all goes well. Can any of you give me an idea of what kind of insurance rate i should be expecting? I know its probably different for everyone, but just some ideas would be really helpful. Depending on the $, I want to set some aside for this and it would come out of the down payment I plan on paying. I've got a good driving record, but my current car insurer wont insure me for anything else because of some financial trouble I had 10 years ago! Oh well, onward and upward!
I love this forum and am learning so much! I hope to be a teardrop owner soon!

Igna -- call your auto insurance company and I'll bet they tell you that you are automatically covered for liability when you hook the trailer up to your insured car.

That's the case with Geico, my car insurer.

I don't have any other insurance on the teardrop. The teardrop is not worth so much that it's total loss would be devastating to me. Only the liability aspect of towing could be catastrophic.

I am not that flush with $$$ I covered mine for $3500 even though a home built. The rate was peanuts and I rolled it in with House and other vehicles at a package rate.

If they don't want your money I am sure there are other good insurance companies that do.

In the unlikely event I totaled my teardrop, I still have four tents for camping.

I also carry a $1k deductible on my car. Manage risk to suit your needs.

I was kind of surprised by my insurance. got coverage to $11,000 on the trailer for $95 and got a refund of $15 for overpayment. So, $80 for a year.

I just insured my little guy 6 wide sport for $34. It's used so I insured it for $5000 coverage. I'm with liberty mutual. It covers damage and theft. Liability is automatically covered with your auto insurance.
Conform and be dull.

Our home and car insurance is through The Hartford for the last so many years now. If you’re still looking for options you could check out their rates too. Their claim service is really good.
