well...the wife and I go downtown for a Subway sandwich and a trip to Walmart...

We are driving home and the wife says "you hear that strange noise your car is making" No (I'm not wearing my hearing aids) I don't hear a dang thing...

We were driving on our mountain road at about 5 MPH and before I could pull over the dang thing just cut off and that was it. No idiot lights, no nothing...just quit... :(

I may have to get a new tow vehicle... But, I will wait to see what the shop has to say first.

((((((((( Good Vibes )))))))))))))

Waiting for the call from the mechanic is like waiting for the call from the doctor's office about test results. I hate it.

Man, I hope that sound wasn't the timing belt failing. :worship:

Early Subby boxers were non-interference engines, but I think the Forrester came out with the newer versions, that are interference.

I'll cross my fingers for you -- when I don't need them to type.

Sounds like you have a broken battery cable. Does your lights come on or anything. If your lights come on have someone try to crank the car and watch the lights. lights dimming bad or weak battery. Lights go out instantly you have a ground issue or bad connection on the cables. I don't think it was a timing belt cause you would have had all the lights on the dash go on.

Hi emiller, thanks for the info, but the battery is fine and the lights operate.

It just cut off when I came to a stop. The tow truck driver, who actually owns the repair shop, was able to get it started, but it ran really rough...and no, I don't think it's the plugs and wires, because we replaced them two months ago.

We were able to determine it is most likely electrical, but they will not know until tomorrow. The good news is, it's not the timing belt.

A good bit of what could be wrong depends on the mileage. Cam belts are good for about 100,000 miles the cam belt idlers and tensioners need to be looked at and or changed. I have also heard of water pump failures.

So, to pass the time, are you looking for new tow vehicles?

my Subaru has 86k miles, and it's not the timing belt. It will still turn over and crank, just very rough idle and will not move under it's own power...

I thought it may be the computer when you first posted, but I've never heard of a car running at all with a bad computer.

I hope you get good news!
God Bless

Keep that fact from your wife. When mine discovers that I have time on my hands, I am usually given a cleaning chore. I have perfected the art of looking busy.
