I want a tongue box, but the jack is in the way!

Anything to do with mechanical, construction etc

Slowcowboy, the jack will fit under a standard tongue box. I just wouldn't be able to crank it.

I wonder about having the jack re-welded, so the crank was at a 45º angle to the tongue. (Is it just me, or is it hard to type "tongue" even when I know how to spell it?!?) What I need is clearance to crank it, and still allow it to fold up parallel to the tongue.

I don't have a welder, but I have a friend!

This may prove to be the best solution. Does your jack fold under the tongue box okay?

Greetings, All,

I'm glad I happened on this thread. I'm pondering the same issue. I used the Tractor Supply, #1750 trailer for my build and the tongue is just too short. You can get the wheel jack on it, but that's about it.

I was thinking along the same lines Cliff is. I was thinking of getting a longer length of heavier gauge tubing, (the same size as the existing tongue, but thicker), and welding a new receiver on it. The tongue bolts to the trailer frame so it should be fairly straightforward. I was just concerned whether or not there would be a safety issue? I can't see any, but I'm no trailer engineer. I extended the end of my TTT 2' beyond the back of the 8' trailer, (10' long by 5' wide), so I've got a slight tongue weight issue already. I need more weight in the front. It's too late to move the axle back because the frame and flooring are already installed. Is this a "do-able" fix?

Its a little different than the picture I posted. I actually have the plate on the bottom instead of the wheel. Unfortunatley they made the plate rectangular so it has to be in the right orientation when I fold it up but it seems to naturally go there so it works good.

I don't have a picture of it folded up but as you can see it folds up right underneath the box.
