Building fold up beds -need ideas

Postby Ogoki » Sun Aug 22, 2010 10:39 am

My wife and i recently purchased a Sure-Trac Cargo Trailer 7 X 14 to haul our ATV in and then camp in . Used it last week with our minor modifications . Instead of just jumping in and building I am getting ideas and then after my fall busy season I plan to spend my down time this winter making our improvements . We insulated the ceiling and installed a thin white panel . Anyway we plan to pull the plywood off the walls , add a window to each side insulate and panel and we already have an RV style door on order . An awning will also be added . Back to the beds . Last week we used 2 cots to sleep on but I want to build in to beds that I can hinge off the walls for 2 separete beds and then have the option of folding up another board to make the bed the full 81 inches of the width . I want 2 beds whereas a buddy and I can use it for a hunting camp and a full bed when it is just her and I . I have some ideas for the fold up beds and I have searched here looking for pictures . Any pics or ideads will be appreciated . ..............We have a 24 ft travel trailer but can't haul our atv and the trailer too. Last week we went 1700 miles and really liked camping out of it . Even with the atv in back of it we laid out our foam and sleeping bags and slept in the front have saving 100 on a motel .............I have really enjoyed seeing how nice some of you have done building your camper conversions . I like sma and simple . Last week we had 20 hours of rain at one stretch and it was nice being out of the rain to sleep and cook. Thanks Again !!!!!

I built mine for pretty much the same use as yall. I have a 40 ft 5th wheel, but it's useless when it comes to taking the ATV's with us. I'll try and describe my beds as best as possible for now until I get some pictures. I have a 20X8.5 with a V-nose and built the fold out beds over the wheel wells. I bolted three C channel pieces a couple inches tall to the wall to run bolts through that would act as hinges. Off of them are the three 1" square tubes that serve as the frame for the plywood beds. There are legs that fold off of each of those to support it when folded down. I D-rings mounted to the wall on each side of them to hold them up during transport. That's the simple part of it... They also make into couches with a table in between them, but I'll have to get the pictures up to show that part better. Hopefully that will give you an idea to start with for now.

Bunk Bed Solution

Postby Cephus » Tue Aug 24, 2010 12:07 am

I found an image of bunkbeds on allprowest.com I'm planning on doing it on my CT conversion.
Basically it consists of 4 metal brackets attached to one wall, one pair for each bed. The front consist of 2 metal bars on each corner opposite the wall and connected to each bed. The brackets and metal bars allow the beds to swing up flash with the wall, mattresses attached and stapped to a couple of brackets to keep it in place. The brackets will need some fabrication unless someone already makes one out there. As soon as I can figure this system out I will load it.
Try the following link, No guarantees it will work:

I plan on using the e-track 2x4s for supporting beds/bunks in various configurations.

MegC,

Thank you for the link. I have seen the e-track in use by others on the forum but wasn't sure what it was called or where to get it. After reviewing the web site I ordered a pair of 5' e-track rails and 8 2x4 modules for our bed that will go in our 6x10 CT conversion. The bed takes up the full width of the CT and I believe in overkill in terms of structural strength, or most anything for that matter. That will allow us to get the inflatable bed up off the floor (providing storage space beneath) when we don't take the Harley, and the ability to stow away the bed components to make way for the Harley when we do take it along. :applause:

It could be converted to flip up style...
