Anyone try the MagicJack Phone System?

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

At first I read "MadJack" also.
Guess where damaged for life now :?
I've been wondering if this worked. I've had yahoo phone before and it was terrible. Think I'll give "MagicJack" a try.
Madjack do you offer comparable rates and is your system avaible in my area?
Thanks for the info guys.

We've had the "Mad Jack" Magic Jack for a long time and you ask if it works. It works so well that several countries who's governments own the phone company have banned them. Loosing to much revenue, I guess.

I have one and use it it works real good for me, but beware in an emegency situation. The 911 operator may not be able to see your location on her/his PC screen. It also is more complicated if you are using it out of your town. You might make a test call to your 911 operator tell her/him this is a test call and have her/him check to see if she/he can see your correct location. This can be a matter of life and death.

My son (air force) is stationed in Japan now and is using Magic Jack. It works well for over seas calls. Last year he was in South Korea and was using skype, both of them give better reception than his cell phone in South Dakota did.

It is wonderful to be able to have long chats with him.

For him Magic Jack is a better deal than Skype since it is a low yearly cost instead of a monthly cost.

1/2 lol I am just wondering if it is more cost effective to drop "ma bell"?
or just the phone service and keep the interwebbing dsl
or go cable all the way with idsn

As in all cases your mileage may vary.
Most people already have cable so it's just a matter of choice.

We purchased an OOMA phone system, which connects up before the computer so no need to leave a computer on and ported our number over. This system looks like and acks like an answering machine with phone It cost more up front, but has more features, and only costs 12 dollars a year to renew for the basic service.

OOMA spoken here! We set up two! Hooked the first one up, packed it into the suitcase, fly to the Philippines, then connect it to DSL there. Voila! Local calling to the Philippines!

Bought second Ooma, ported number over, love it. Free national calling, but do have to pay approx. $3.00 in uncle Sam's taxes. Do you pay taxes with Magic Jack. Since it is hooked to my normal remote phones, my answering machine works with it also. No more land line bills.

We gave up the land line a few years ago. We have cell phones and that's it. As a matter of fact, the wires in the walls used for phone extensions is now being used for extension speakers for the sound system.

We decided to go with the Magicjack because I need to make long-winded business calls from home sometimes and that eats up the roll-over minutes. I over-ran the minutes one month and it cost $75. The company covered the expense. It took a while to get reimbursed and they weren't too happy about it. It was suggested that if I needed to make business calls, I should come to the office (in the middle of a weekend.)

We paid the $40 for the first year and the Magicjack and that's it. It's supposed to be $20/year after that. The busienss calls are for my convenience, so we bought the Magicjack and didn't put in to get reimbursed.
