Paintballer want to build

Postby walleye » Sun Aug 22, 2010 8:38 pm

Hello,
Just wanted to jump in and say hello. As the subject says I am an avid scenario paintballer and I am interested in building something to haul my gear in as well as sleep 3-5 people. I say five people because I am also a family man and have the wife and three kiddo's that want to camp as well. I have spent the last 24 hours pouring over the forum here and trying to see what suits me and my needs. I have worked in metal fab for the last ten years so the idea of doing this is not TOO much of a worry.

I have pretty much decided to go with a square teardrop, I like it it suits most all my beeds and looks rugged.

The size is what has me stumped. Due to the sleeping requirments I am thinking something in the 6.5'W x 10'L x 5.5' H range. The chassis would either be a HF 4' x 8' widened and streched or a custom built 6' x 10'.

Is this over kill? Can anyone fore see design problems with this setup?

I look forward to my build and promise I will try the search button before I ask.

Take care and I will be in touch,
WALLEYE

Hi Walleye, welcome to the forum. It looks like you have a pretty ambitious build planned. Have you considered picking up a vintage trailer that is about that same size? I have a 10ft Kenskill (inside) which is 6ft 4in wide and tall enough to stand in. I am sure this type trailer would be cheaper than constructing about the same size from scratch and you would be off camping and paintballing much quicker. With the whole family involved, I think they would be much more comfortable with a rig that was made to cook and sleep in. Lets see what others say.
8) Good luck, which ever way you go.

Roly, thanks for the welcome. I understand what you are saying...but I am a bit of a DIY guy and like the pride that comes with starting and completing a task. I have considered it, but the wife is excited about the build as well.

Hi Walleye,

Welcome! I'm just down the road a little bit west of you in Watauga.

Like Woody suggested, try to come out to Loyd Park. The first teardrop outing I attended was at Joe Pool Lake. Everyone welcomed me and my wife. Two years later, we're still visiting because our teardrop isn't finished, and everyone still welcomes us.

Thanks Woody and Aggie! I had read about that and was thinking I should maybe just plan to do that...but now that I am invited I will for sure make it out. . Sounds like fun and a great way to see others and their builds.

How about going 12' long. Then you can have the main bed in the rear, with a bunk over it, and two bunks in the front.

Mike...
The quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten, so build your teardrop with the best materials...
