Cat-tossing lady: I didn't mean to cause 'distress'

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

The story says the owners were "looking for it the next day." Huh? Next day?

If the cat was intentionally allowed to be outside unattended, they bear some responsibility, too, IMO.

That's what I was thinking, my neighbor lets her cats stay outside all the time. I've also seen several Red Foxes (the animal not the comedian) in and around my house. Now if the cat gets eaten by a Fox, who's fault is it then? The lady did have a choice not to do it, but does that totally absolve the owner from any responsibility?

Nope, still the owner's fault. But I have several clients that have indoor/outdoor or all outdoor cats for one reason or another. As long as they are neutered and vaccinated and they know the risks, then I don't have a problem with it. I would prefer them to be indoor only but they aren't my cats.

But equating a fox/coyote/dog eating your cat and what this woman did is apples and oranges.

I didn't read Rocky's comment as comparing the two things. I think he meant that lots of bad things can happen to a pet left outside unattended.

BTW, I know people who let their cats outside, but only when they are outside with the cats.

Everyone I know who owns cats allows them to go outside. Seems to me it would be cruel to make them stay inside all the time. I know my dog demands to be outside in the summer but is a little more reluctant to do so in the winter.

There is even a cat that comes by to visit me in the garage occasionally, I have no idea who the owner is but the cat is friendly healthy and and generally brings a smile to my face when she shows up for a visit. Unless I'm trying to weld something, then I have to wait for her to leave so I don't damage her eyes, wonder if I could find her a welding helmet?...........

Why do you people keep calling that woman a lady? Real ladies don't throw live cats in trash cans. I wouldn't call her a B...Female Dog, either. With the exception of some Pit Bulls, etc, that's not fair to most female dogs. There must be a name for her but it ain't "lady". Maybe she's a "Witch Wannabe". Come to think of it, supposedly, witches take better care of cats than that.

I was obviously appalled by this woman's cruel 'joke." But I guess I'm not as shocked as many were. People do all kinds of cruel things to animals that don't make the worldwide news. Animal cruelty happens every single day.

And, don't get me started on puppy mills...

People who mistreat animals can't be trusted around people. Some of the most notorious serial killers started out as abusers of animals. :x

Yes, but it isn't caught on tape every day.

You are shocked by puppy mills but not by this woman abusing a cat? Do you think cats are not as worthy as dogs?

Yup. :R

We kid around with each other on the dog and cat stuff, but I think we are on the same page when it comes to animal cruelty. It's wrong, whether a dog, cat --- or even cows and chickens.

Seriously, I'm not shocked by puppy mills anymore, either. Angry, yes, but not shocked.

Like I said, dropping the cat in the recycle bin was appalling. It just doesn't surprise me that someone would do it.

Larry Powell's website ...

the amount of animal mistreatment just in the DFW area (the Dallas Animal Services' new shelter's manager was indicted on cruelty charges, because he deliberately let a kitten die inside the shelter's wall) is appalling.

Worldwide, it makes me loathe my species on a regular basis.

Personally I got a chuckle out of seemingly normal person making the move.

......but think of this.....just suppose Ms. Bale actions saved its life by placing it in the bin. Karma works in its own way..or...it was just a cat?.....the world will never know. If Ms. bale was thinking on her feet she could have responded to the authorities. "I stopped to pet the cat and suddenly an eerie pleasant feeling washed over me while it guided my hand placing it in the bin. I'm sure the purpose was to save it from doom."
