Hello from Dublin, Ireland

Hi all.
Great web site ,i was planning to convert a van into a campervan but due to financial reason I've decided to go for the next best thing.
I'm a carpenter by trade with experience in furniture making so the teardrop really appeals to me as i can make everything myself.
Trying to decide weather to go for an 8" or a 10" type....would like the extra space.
Anyway hoping to start this week so looking forward to it.

You certainly have some beautiful places to camp in Ireland. Teardrops are great for basic camping without the distractions of an RV -- or should I say, a caravan.

Andrew (angib) lives in York, and is the forum's premiere engineer. And, there are several other teardroppers in the UK.

I have travelled all over the UK, but not to Ireland. That is something I hope to change as soon as possible. If you ever get to Texas, there are several of us here that you now know -- if only on the internet.

In the words of the TD & TTT regulars, start making sawdust!

Failte Derek! I have loads of family in Ireland including an aunt in Dundrum. What part of Dublin are you in? I've thought about hiring a caravan to travel around in next time I there visiting. I currently own a 1968 Sprite Caravan. It looks kind of like the old caravan that Fr. Ted borrowed for his holiday in one of the old episodes! But I'm sure having fun with it. Best of luck with your build. Make sure you take loads of pictures and post them as you go. This lot is mad for photos!

A fine name...one shared by my wonderful mother.......I'm from baldoyle on the north coast of Dublin..I know dundrum well...worked out that wayfor a while.
That was probably my favorite Fr. ted episode....hilarious
I went looking at trailers parts today so things are moving on nicely.

Hi Del welcome to the very steep slippery slope that is the addiction of teardrops!

Make lots of sawdust and take lots and lots of pictures. Most of all have fun.

Welcome aboard, Derek. Good, you are a carpenter, and highly skilled in working with wood. As you probably know, every 10th newbie has to build a teardrop entirely out of wood, and there have just been 9 others before you posted, so there you go, have at it. (Just kidding, of course)

Now, building entirely out of wood is rather unique, and if you are into sanding the exterior down every year and recoating it with varnish, I suggest that you press on and display your woodworking skills. However, if you think that the weather in your neck of the woods might create a problem with an all-wood teardrop, stick to an aluminum, FRP or galvanized sheetmetal exterior. Either way, good luck on your build.
