Side popout "drawers" for feet (bed extension)

Anything to do with mechanical, construction etc

Good point.
That gave me an idea, i would put a little "track" around the edge of the wood shelf (bottom of box) and have the cap base slide in it, then I can just push/pull the cap from the inside (no need for velcro).

This idea is very close to an idea I was thinking about. Instead of a slide out I was thinking of a "tip out" for feet so I could use a 4' wide trailer body. Below is my very poor drawing skills with MS Paint, I would love to see one of you 3D this up.

Obviously the gaps are exaggerated for illustration purposes and would all have the usual gaskets and tightening closure latches

I see two major advantages to this idea; simple and cheap to build using just a piano or hurricane hinge, and no horizontal outdoor surfaces for water drainage problems.

Thoughts?

Ooops, just followed Navigator's link. I guess my idea isn't as original as I thought.

There was a family at IRG3.0, who had cut out the side of their tear and put a removable box there, to give their growing son some legroom. The box came off and was stored inside for transport. A door covered the hole.

This would be pretty easy and seal up well, just need to make it smaller. My concern would be putting it away wet after a rain. It is just a flip down panel with a tentlike cover.

I have kicked around building a 4 footer, with a 2 fppt. flip-out section for my feet, but just kept thinking that when it was raining, I would have soaked feet, sleeping bag, mattress and wooden floor. So nixed that idea.
