Ummm - what was the tatoo, in the first place? I can't make head or tails of it.

It's a skull with hair and a headband.

This is a family board, so I can't share a picture of my tat. If you want to see a similar design, Google "lawnmower tattoo" and it will show up on a semi-bald head. Mine is placed differently. I shave the same area a lot of women also shave.... nuff said.

As far as piercings, I've had two holes in my left ear for I don't know how long. My last two jobs would not let me wear ear rings for safety reasons, so I wore them infrequently (too much trouble to remember to remove them before work). The new job I just started this week has no restrictions that they made any reference to, so I probably will start with just my "diamond" stud and add the hoop back in soon. First I have to see how long they will tolerate the pony tail.

Here's mine...

The names on the collar are my kid's names...I thought about getting a pile of ____ behind the dog, with a little sign with my wife's name on it. LOL

Just kiddin.

Funny story about piercings...back in the day I had an ear ring that I made. It was a small sword with a chain on it...it almost hung down to my shoulder. I was at a Pantera concert and the head banging got a little intense and the sword swung around and jabbed me in the eye. That was the end of my jewelry making career.

I actually agree with you on this one. You can talk without clacking a tongue ring with a little practice. I too get irritated when people do this. Most of the time this is done to "show off" the piercing.

steve smoot wrote:I'm with Roly on this one...that makes me hurt...why do you guys and gals want to go through all that pain?

Well Steve, I guess I have to say if it didn't hurt, it wouldn't really be worth it. I had such a rush when I got my eyebrow done I couldn't even talk. "Better then sex" about describes it.

So this is an honest question I'm asking only those who are inked or pierced.

How do you know you've reached that point?

I really would like to understand.

Well, realy, it depends on the person. I don't want ink I can't can't cover up, and piercings can be dealt with for ocaiosons like job interviews and weadings etc. My current boss thought I went and got all my piercings in the three days between my last interview and when I started work.

Personally, I only have two more to go. (Not including replacing the earring I had to ditch that my high school girl friend gave me at a party because a "professional" got it infected when he steped it up in size) and that is just a matter of finding the right people to do them. "Made in USA" on the bottom of my foot, and a piercing in the nape of my neck.

ahh I was wondering when ppl would start posting to this thread...

I will explain a few things... atleast about why I am tattooed.

I spent 23 years in the US Army ( regular army, Retired 2007 ) I have seen more combat than a person has a right to.. From Beruit to Panama, from Somilia, to Afghan, and Iraq ... the tattoo on my back I got right before deploying to Afghan.

it represents a long forgotten fight, and a group of men who died.

The Spade represents my Compnay ( Alpha Company ) in which I was the squad leader...the skull inside of the spade, means that men under my command gave their lives..the 2 dragons facing each other represent the 2 Navy seals my company was ordered to escort, who also parished in the line of duty..their call signs were Dragon 1 and Drangon 2 lastly the thorned vine with the dogs face in the middle represent the jungle we fought in and the person who got us out....a US Army sniper.. ( the dog is a real dog named "Sniper" for this person, so he is represented by the dogs face )

If you look at the picture of my left arm you may be able to it make out, it is a sleeve in memorial to the other 3 squad leader of my unit who I servered with and who all gave their lives.
I wear these tattoos so I do not forget.... not to be trendy or to be cool..but to honor those who I cared about.

Like I said in my original posting, I have alot of tattoos... I got my 1st in Thailand by a monk..back in the days when only the monks were allowed to do them... ( blade and paddle, not needle and gun ) it is on my left shoulder..I also have one on my right sholder, chest and a large one on my right forearm....
when will I stop?..well after 42 years of being single I recently got married, so Im a newlywed now and the new Mrs. says NO MORE....but we will see! It is a very addicting practice and I dont think I will ever stop.

BTW all my tattoos can be hidden if need be. and I usually do!

tatoos have become so main stream , along with peircings...but even with all I have I still find a few things disturbing...like those kids who GUAGE their ears....ohhh I knwo you have seen them..walking around in their "skinny jeans" and the giant holes in their ears!

WHAT!!!!?????

I hope I dont sound like a old geez rambling on about todays youth...heck I grew up during the late 70,s early 80s punk movement.. and I swore I would be Punk till the day that I die...but HOLY MOLY!! WHAT IS THAT!!!!!

Whats next..Lips Plates and Weenie gords?

O.K. ...

... most of the "old guard" has already seen this:

Image

Yeah, that's my arm! but, it's not my first tattoo (I got my first one in 1980) ... and it won't be my last! I have plans for full sleeves on both arms, an upper back piece, and a couple on my lower legs.

Now, for all you nay-sayers and folks critical of tattoos & piercings (yes, I have one piercing ... in my left ear) ... I got the impression that this thread was for folks, here, who had/have tattoos & piercings to share them with other like-minded inked & pierced folks, here ... not to have to listen/read critical crap from folks who don't like and/or disapprove of said body art ... but I'm not totally surprised, 'cause this kind of thing happens on this 'Board all the time! People, if you don't like a topic that wasn't aimed at you in the first place, then PLEASE don't post to it! RESPECT those for whom the thread/topic was meant and STFO (that means Stay The Frick Out)!

Tattoos & body piercings are a totally personal matter & choice (much like religion and hair color, but WAY MORE permanent), and while you might not like them or even approve (you do have that right), voicing/typing that dislike/disapproval is just as inappropriate as if you were to do the same about someone's religion ... or hair color for that matter. Let's all try exercising a bit more restraint from now on, huh?

That said, here's a pic of my youngest daughter & me taken in about 2006 ... she's a professional tattooist/artist and body piercer, and she's way more "colorful" today. I'm proud as hell of her and her ability/talent ... not only as a mother & wife first (she's also married to one of our finest serving in Afghanistan ... he, too, is much tattooed), but also of her chosen craft-and-art:

Image

Personally, I don't care one way or another whether you like "body art" or not ... that is your choice, after all ... I just don't like hearing/reading your negative and disdainful comments where they weren't asked for in the first place.

'Nuf said ... for now ...

So, you plan on getting it touched up? I made the mistake of asking the guy to go easy on me with my first, and unfortunately, he did. When I washed it, one of the lines actually washed off. I had him redo it, and thats the only line that still looks good 8 years later. I'll have to get it touched up one of these days. I also like to put a little extra sunblock over the ink for protection.
