spare tire mount

Postby mobile camper » Sun Aug 08, 2010 12:53 pm

My wife likes the way the spare tire was mounted on the back of Marjorie Forbs (RV Crazy video) teardrop. The spare tire was mounted on the back of the trailer and would sing out of the way and turn to be used as a table. Does anyone know how this was made?

the above is the best I have seen just thought you would like to see further talk about the subject and see what others have done.

If you have the tools and know how I would do as above.

I wanted to do that but have little welding skills so I ended up making a fold down table that rides in the back and can fold out on ither side. depending on which side food prep was being done on. I have no galley.

Others came up with other ideas of how to make one from parts already made.

see

Here you will find more about the above unit and what others thought.

when I researched it I looked at swing out tire mouints for 4x4 units.
I found it to heavy for a wood mount and to time consuming to unbolt from a wood frame to swing out. If you do it do it in metel as seen above.
I get exsited every time I see them.
the 4th picture down I found to be the key to making sure that it does not fall down when opening.
My swing out wood table is supported by a chain that is attached at the top side of the trailer and it still needs that extra support seen in picture 4.

This is the most ingenious idea I have ever seen! I was tempted to build a TD or TTT when my current renovation is done, but this has me convinced me that I must just so I can use this great idea.

Thats pretty slick how the spare tire turns into a table. I've seen these trailer pics before awhile back.

Aw, someone got some pictures off my web site. ;) No problem, glad they're being put to good use. And by the way, it was only her son who came up with that design as well as restore her Benroy for her.

And as a side note. The car and teardrop is for sale.

Does anyone know how to get in touch with her son, :worship: that he might lend some assistance with more pictures.
I think his idea is awsome and I would like to copy his design for my teardrop.

What more do you need? The pictures tell all. As for the dims, just make a mockup of what you feel is right. Every teardrop and frame is different. Besides Margie's son is into Hotrods, not teardrops and most likely doesn't have any plans tucked away. Probably just sketched it up and then fabricated it. ;)

Right, it was probably sketched on top of the welding table with soapstone. In my shop, as the project takes shape, the drawing fades and wears away, which is a good thing because there is sometimes not much resemblance between the two in the end anyway. That's the way most of my welding projects are done. Some are based on photographs, some simply to accomplish a goal with no earthly idea what the item will look like until it is finished. Many are never drawn at all. Very seldom do I want to build anything exactly as it was built by someone else.

Most of the dimensions on that spare tire rack would vary based on the width, ground clearance, tire size, etc of the trailer on which it would be mounted. I don't see much call for plans there, the pictures tell it all.

Plans? We don't need no stinkin' plans......
