Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Postby Roly Nelson » Thu Sep 09, 2010 12:16 am

Got roped into getting into Face Book, found out I didn't want to read about folks sitting around the pool, clipping their nails, picking their noses and asking if I knew where such and such was. One week was enough for me, so I dumped it. Who wants to know if someone went for a walk this morning, or had their morning constitutional, without any problems. Ugh. Oh, BTW, I tried a new mustache wax today, it works great! (see what I mean?)

My wife has an account and that's good enough for me. She tells me what she thinks I should know besides telling me what I don't care to know. I have more important things to do in life besides knowing what Mrs. Jones is doing with Mr. Smith. This forum is bad enough.

That reminds me of a fellow we camped beside one summer...His name was Gus..

Gus told me that he threw out his dictionary and his encyclopedias...I ask why, and he said that he just didn't need them any longer, cause his wife and daughter knew every damn thing...

Hi jeff, I'm Linda and I'm a FB addict, or so I've been told. I like FB to keep up with my "other kids" and see pics of their babies, chat with school friends, patients at our office, hunting friends and I've even started a FB page for my business which gained me 2 sales within 20 min of uploading pics and making my first post.

I check into FB twice a day, sometimes I stay on for a few minutes and sometimes I am on for hours.

i am Linda Rhodes Modisette on FB and my business is A Rustic Touch

My Son built a Facebook page for me. I like it.
It allows me to keep track of some of my favorite students after retiring.
I can keep encouraging them in their endeavors.
I also get to talk with some of my colleagues whom I miss.

I'm on it and at first was on it all the time but then I realized there was so much more I would rather be doing outside or in the garage so now I use it to keep up with my family in Texas and in California, and friends from jigh schools (3 of them) and college. I just mainly check the updates to see whats new for about 29 mins and then hop over to here and read the posts.

I left FB (and LinkedIn) after their continual changing of their obfuscated privacy policy. Something you set to private, may become public when FB change their privacy policy. What you should know is that privacy on FB (and some other social networking services) is probably not what you think it is. Things you think are private can leak out by several different methods. The leakiest of which being 3rd party applications.

Most people will be horrified to learn that there are 'personal data aggregation' websites that gather information that can be found about you from social networking websites and the free email services, such as YahooMail, Hotmail and GoogleMail. Most of these services default to sharing your data.

One particularly invasive personal data aggregation service is SPOKEO (wiki entry). Spokeo make your leeched personal information available for free and charge for a full invasion of your privacy from the convenience of one website. All with no oversight or regulation.

These personal data aggregators link your online information together via one common piece of information. Typically that is your email address.

You can minimise your ability to be aggregated by using a unique email address to register for these services and by entering bogus or inaccurate mandatory personal information.

Finally, be aware that any information you put there may become public regardless of your efforts to make it private.
Kind Regards, BigAl.

Yes, BigAl, and whatever hits the internet stays there forever. I have a facebook account, but don't use it much. Nothing on there I would be upset about becoming public.
God Bless

I've been on Facebook for a few years, and use it everyday. Not necessarily for anything productive, but its nice to keep in touch with friends and family, and share photos. Its essentially an overdeveloped discussion forum that has evolved into so much more than just a bulletin board.

It can be a great social networking tool once you realize you can use your settings to IGNORE Farmville and all that other CRAP :x I've even clicked HIDE to prevent a lot of my "friends" crap from showing up in my news feed.

I got away from MySpace a while ago because it just got overwhelmed with immature junk. Unfortunately Facebook has been leaning that way in recent times as well.

But at least I can click IGNORE and HIDE

Sometimes I'd like to do that here Image

I'm there , back in touch with LOTS of old classmates and some distant relatives .... I agree, you just have to ignore the junk and "hide" all those postings from naughty folks etc.

look for me by searching Julie Grall ... pic is same as on here.
Some things are way over my head !! ...but it keeps me looking UP!
