Greetings from Mississippi

I have been lurking for a while, but nothing to report til now.

Just started my teardrop build on a Northern Tool 5X8 frame the first of this month, using Stephen Guthrie's plans. I have the floor sandwich attached and the aluminum skin ordered.

Haven't seen too many Mississippi folks on here. I mainly like to camp and backpack in the Smokeys - about 8 hours from here (Starkville - home of the MSU Bulldogs).

Recently drove Rt 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica Pier, CA in an '84 Corvette. Not a whole lot of leg room in those things, but a memorable trip. We stayed mainly in mom & pop motels including a WigWam motel in Rialto CA on our 15 day trip.

We saw one teardrop on our trip at a Bryce Canyon visitor's center. The teardrop was named "Home for the Night". That's what got me thinking about a name for mine and I came up with "Home Away..." (short for "Home Away from Home") I hope that's not already taken. Even if it is, we will probably not ever run in to each other. See ya'll around.

There are some MS tear folk... Chris & Holly as well as Jerry are near Memphis. John & Mary are in Jackson... you do have some cousins over here in 'Bama and TONs of tears in TN... You are always welcome at our gatherings...

There will be a teardrop gathering near Tuscaloosa, AL the weekend of Oct 8.

I live about 5 minutes from the WigWom in Rialto
How as the room itself, the new owners have put a lot into bringing the place back, on the out side anyway....haven't stayed there, probably too close to my own bed.

Welcome aboard from the left coast.

You can't truly travel the Mother Road in anything but a Corvette!

I had the honor to run the entire road in a '65 coupe, many, many years ago and rode part as a passenger in my shipmate's '58.

More recently my youngest son and I drove it in a Jeep, stopped in Winslow to see the "flatbed Ford", etc..

Cool!! Another Misissippian!! There aren't a lot of us yet; but I'm hoping that will change with time. Got two tears up in NW Miss, one near Jackson, one in Greenville, one in Hattiesburg and a woodie with green trim and Miss plates that I haven't been able to put a geographical location to yet. As the director of the Magnolia Chapter from the other forum, I welcome you to the sandbox. I can re-iterate what Karen said... the Alabama and Tennessee folks are great to camp with. I haven't had the opportunity yet to go to any Arkansas, Missouri or Kentucky gatherings. My experience at the last two LCG's, the Louisianners and Texans are a lot of fun as well. Mississippi has had two small spring gatherings so far, the first at Grenada and the second at Arkabutla. Haven't picked a date and location for 2011 yet, I guess I should get busy on that.

Any ways.... a long winded way to say ...HI!

The Wig Wam Motel in Rialto was great. We stayed there 2 nights - one on the way to LA and the 2nd on the way out. They have done a great job renovating the motel and grounds. Seems like they are 50 or 60 years old. They were surprisingly roomy. The owners were very friendly and even allowed us to warm up some left-overs in the office microwave.

On the Rt 66 trip our fuel fill-ups occasionally cost more than our lodging due to the Corvette only running well on premium gas.

Looking forward to attending some MS, AL, AR & TN gatherings in the near future, even tho ya'll usually whup us in football.
