Smoothie rims search

Postby ramblinman » Sat Sep 18, 2010 2:41 pm

I am new to the scene and just purchased a 95% completed teardrop. I would like to put Smoothie rims on the tires.

The size of the tires is 12 X 4_5.45. Do they make these rims this small and if so where?

Thanks for the help.... :D

Good luck. The smallest I could find were 14X5. Even "moon" hubcaps seem to start at 13 inches.

Can you go with a larger wheel/tire and not hit anything on your TD?

Small smoothie rim challenge

Postby ramblinman » Sat Sep 18, 2010 3:02 pm

Thanks for the response. I probably will have to move up in size. Fortunately the fenders are not installed yet so this would not be a problem. I was trying to use the tires I have.....

I use smoothies from U.S. Wheel. Looks like you need to go to a larger size.
Some places like Discount tire will take trade in tires if less than 3 years old :D Danny

I have 15" smoothie wheels. Be careful when getting new wheels that the backspacing is right. But my biggest problem is that the hub sticks out to far and the moon will not fit.

Change to a standard dust cap. Your hubcaps should fit then.

Some days all you can do is smile and wait for some kind soul to come along and pull your ass out the bind you've gotten yourself into.

The wheels came with a low profile baby moon hub cap and were called smoothies in the catalog.I dunno? I found some higher profile baby moons that still do not clear the hub. I have removed the dust cap and grease fitting and the moon still hits the axle nut. At a tear gathering last week I met Dennis who has some rally caps he thinks may work. If not I way try wheel spacers.
I really wasn't trying to hijack this thread only trying to warn people about the possible hub interfering with the moon caps.

I agree with the interference. I took the sure-lube caps off and had to cut off some spindle so mine could fit.
