Hee... yeah, sounds good. TOTALLY with him about the shower filling up the darn tanks so going to the outdoor variety. The "wipe method" is good advice also.

I don't shampoo my hair very often any more (wavy/curly hair is a little odd in that it behaves better with just plain ol' water &/or conditioner instead), but I'm ALL about getting rinsed off after a long bike ride by any means necessary. I'm thinking some iteration of little shower tents + solar shower should be sufficient.

Meg,

Curly hair? Who would know from your photo? You're wearing a billed watch cap, a bicycle helmet and a head lamp! My first thought (albeit, long ago now) was that you look dressed to rob a bank and make your escape by snowmobile or by dog sled! LOL! :?

Got a real photo? A head shot? It's ok. Nobody here will recognize you on the streets of central Washington, Spokane, Zihuatanejo, Perth or Washington D.C.

Prem ;)

 I thought her avatar was of one of her children, just going out to play or go sledding in the snow.

I'm literally laughing out loud.... yeah, it's me in that pic. I'd just returned from a single-digit-temperature night sledding run with the dogs. In retrospect I'm just sad I took off the clear (OK, iced/fogged) safety glasses before the pic was snapped.

Subtitled: "Martian Tundra Wookie Demands To See Your Leader"

Darn hounds actually killed a huge skunk on my back porch just the night before last. Emailed in 'skunked' around midnight saying it was probably in everyone's best interests that I stay the heck away from the office for at least a day. I'm not the first in this company nor for others I've worked for locally to do so, and to date NOBODY from management ANYWHERE has ever argued with that excuse.

LOL... Tell ya what, I'll post my pic up here if I ever pull off the trailer. Don't hold your breath. I'm honestly not that exciting to look at. Or to talk to. Or to get downwind of.

Still saving money for the TV, which I was HOPING would be next year, but the dratted economy is cramping our style. :x

HOW I INSTALL RADIUSED CORNER RV WINDOWS IN A CARGO TRAILER

Postby Prem » Tue Sep 21, 2010 11:49 pm

:SG HOW I INSTALL RADIUSED CORNER RV WINDOWS IN A CARGO TRAILER :SG

Forum members have asked, so I though I would post it for all:

I only use windows that will fit in between the wall studs. I don't care to mess with the structural integrity of the trailer OR get into welding either aluminum or steel to reinforce a wide cutout.

I insulate and panel the inside of the trailer before putting in the windows. It's simpler and faster than cutting the outside and later cutting the inside to match.

I take foam board from the hobby store/Dollar Store and press it onto the window's inside frame, then cut the indentation with a razor knife to make a template. I fit the window into the cutout on the foam board to see that it's perfect and that there's an eighth of an inch clearance all the way around the cut. Then I put the template on the outside wall of the trailer, square it up between the wall studs and trace the cutout.

I tape the outside of the line quite wide (4 inches) to protect the paint from getting scratched by the jig saw base. I also tape the metal jig saw base just to make sure.

I drill a quarter inch hole inside the window line anywhere for the jig saw blade. I drill it all the way through the wall, including the insulation and the interior paneling.

I put a long Bosch (brand name), fine-toothed plywood blade (available at ACE Hardware) in my Black & Decker jig saw and insert it in the quarter inch hole then cut the line. One cut. The long blade cuts through all of it. The aluminum skin is soft. No problem for the blade.

Use RV window tape (butyl tape) on the inner lip of window frame to get a water tight seal. The trim ring will suck down on the frame, squishing the butyl tape. (On a hot day it will really squish.)

Best wishes,

Prem :)

Thank you

One of the things that makes this "site" so great is people like Prem. I sent a private message asking about installing windows and he took the time to send me the same info he posted here. It is clear, easy to understand, and I'm sure will be very helpful when I get around to getting started! Thanks Prem - your directions and suggestions are very much appreciated.

Ditto what he said. I am going to be undertaking the same task soon, and appreciate Prem taking the time to post those directions above for my own reference when I'm ready to take the saw out.....

You're more than welcome.

ADDENDUM TO WINDOWS INSTALLATION:

And three other, minor tips about installing the trim ring:

1) Use hex-head sheet metal screws. Unlike Phillips head screws, hex-head screws won't jump out of the driver bit of your screw gun.

2) Set the torque of your cordless screw gun in the middle. Ya don't want the head to get twisted off. That's a real pain, requiring needle-nose Vise-Grips that will scratch the paint and mar the aluminum trim ring.

3a) If your trim ring is too deep to compress the window between the inner and outer walls, you have to shim it on the inside wall with some nice wood. The sticks will meet at 90* angles, but then you just cover the entire corner with leather and cut the radius to fit. (Cut another little piece of stick to place against the radius to make a triangle. This gives you something to glue and tack to on three sides. Attach the leather to the wood with BARGE contact cement and decorative upholstery tacks evenly spaced.

3b) On the other hand, if the trim ring is not deep enough, just use longer screws and get a can of expanding chalk to shoot in filler in the minor gap. Smooth it with your finger.. Washes off until dry. Works!

;) Best wishes,

Prem

P.S. The Chihuahua's name is the same as your handle.
P.P.S. I change my sig pic frequently and infrequently, so don't expect it to be there indefinitely :R
