Trailer Height? Door Height?

Any advice/comments on trailer and/or door height would be appriciated. I was considering a 6ft sidewall until I realized I do not have enough wall height above an RV style door for an awning. I suppose I could go to a 7 ft wall, or order a shorter door. Would an extra foot of trailer height make much difference in towing? I am going with a 6X14 trailer. Thanks ~Steve

I had the same problem on my 7X16 conversion. I had 10 feet between the rear of the trailer and the door, so I just made the awning stop before the door...

I have seen A&E awnings on the type of trailer I'm wanting.

The only thing that they needed was for the front side light to be moved allowing the awning to be placed more forward so it did cover the door opening.

I also would add a roller to the top of the door to prevent tearing the canvas if it were to low for some reason.

Pete ... I like that roller idea on the door. Do you recall the trailer sidewall height. And was the door an RV style? Tall enough not to take my head off when I forget to duck? ~Steve

That's an idea too. The only time I would regret that is rainy days.
How tall is your side wall? And do you find the awning to be high enough above the ground. I plan to hang a cook stove on the outside wall, and set up a table under the awning as well. Very similar to my pop-up camper I use now. Thanks .... ~Steve

Do you need a full foot in height? The 6x14 I just ordered I raised 6" to inside height of 6'6". It came standard with 6' height and even being I'm 6'1" myself I was going to go ahead leave it that way but found out the back ramp door opening was only 5'8". I needed at least 5'10" ramp opening for my UTV so by raising it 6" inside brought rear ramp opening up to 6'. That 6" took away both my problems.

I think I could get by with less than the full foot (6' to 7') and still get an awning above the door. Although, the cost of adding 6 inches of height is the same price as adding 12". Say I went with 6'6" instead of 7ft, would that have much of a positive effect on mpg? If not, I think I would prefer the extra 6inches of head room. If six inches lower will reduce a lot of wind drag, i'd prefer shorter walls. I just don't know what to expect since I've only pulled pop-up campers.

Did you ever give an EZ-Up a thought. This works well for us with a ramp.
