The neighbor's brake job

My neighbor is always calling to ask if he can borrow something...so when the phone rang and the number was an out-of-state number, I knew it was the neighbor...I wondered what does he want now?

Well, he says "can you call the mechanic that works on your cars and ask him how to install brake pads on my Buick?" I'm thinking, you got to be kidding? WTF are you crazy? I told the neighbor that calling a mechanic and asking a question like that was like calling your doctor and asking how to repair your own hernia.

I gave my mechanic's telephone number to my neighbor, and suggested he call. I can't wait to get my oil change later this week. It's got to be worth a good laugh.

He could find the info online for free.... I do it all the time when I need to fix anything on my cars.

Tell the inconsiderate fool to research his own car, for cryin' out loud. Like Glen just said, "Google".

There's no excuse anymore; there's an internet message board forum website for anything and everything with wheels.

I'll type out some fundamental advice for people who ask simple questions and there have been written countless "How To's" on matters like this... but for this neighbor you're speaking of, perhaps he'd be better off with a Chilton's manual.

I don't cotton to people who expect others to research their problems for them when all it takes to find the answers is an hour or two online.

You did the right thing, Steve. Your mechanic will either get paid to do some work and/or you and your mechanic will end up with some stories to roll your eyes and laugh about.
