Tongue jack mount options

Postby jss06 » Tue Oct 12, 2010 12:31 pm

I picked up my tongue jack today. Its a pipe mount so it can be removed completely from the trailer by removing a single pin. Trying to decide which way I want to mount it.

Option 1

This will allow the jack to fold up along the frame rail. Because it is a pipe mount it will probalby be a bit noisy off-road and I would more than likely remove it while driving on rough roads. I am aslo worried about trailer stability when it is not connected to the Jeep.

Option 2

Almost on the center line of the frame so it will be more stable while disconnected from the Jeep. It will not fold in this position and will have to be removed and stowed in either the Trailer or the Jeep.

I welcome your opinions and experiences.

You've got a nice hole designed for a tongue jack. Why not use it?

The tailgate on the Jeep swings open. I want to be able to access the cargo area of the Jeep without disconnecting the trailer. Also off-road I do not want anything hanging down that might catch on rocks and such.

Makes sense. I didn't realize your application was off road.

I doubt the Option 1 position would have that much effect on stability, but ir you are going to remove it anyway, option 2 makes good sense.
