I built a Deck...

Postby CAJUN LADY » Mon Oct 18, 2010 7:41 pm

for my Scotty! I wanted to do this for a long time and was bored today so here it is.

It's 4' wide by 3' deep and 7" tall. I used 1x6's and 1x2's. I spaced the 1x2's to allow for dirt and water to fall through. I put a 1x6 in the middle for support. Built it by myself this afternoon. Now I have to put a water sealer on it, paint it and just put a piece of indoor/outdoor carpet on top to wipe your feet.

And it's not heavy at all!

Great job, Becca! :applause:

You going to put the carpet on in strips so that dirt, etc will still fall through?

I need one of those!

DA MOOSE could use it to keep the den clean and dry.

Great job

Thanks Kerry! :) I won't attach the carpet, just a small shoe wiper that I can shake off.

Becca that's a great idea!! :applause: Simple but yet very functional. I might have to think about borrowing your idea to use with the Sprite. Plus it would look really cute with a porch! :)

Thanks Theresa and borrow away! I have "borrowed" many ideas from here so when I can contribute in the tinest way, I feel like a team player.

I have 2 other things I'm going to add to the front porch deck - 2 solar walkway lights. Not quite sure how I'm going to do it yet but passing a couple of ideas around in my head.

Since I use a 9'x11' RV rug outside the door, I can't push the solar lights into the ground without puncturing the carpet and I would like the lights to be at the far end of the "porch" so no one trips at the corners.

So here are my ideas:

1 - Put them in small flower pots filled with sand and set them next to each corner on the ground (2 corners, not the ones close to the door).

2 - Attach them to the 2 corners with some type of strap that I can slide them in and out of.

I kinda like the flower pot idea. I even thought about filling it with resin where the light would be in it permanently. That way if knocked over, sand wouldn't spill everywhere.

Gonna give this some thought and come up with something.

Becca-

I just held a work session for the Boy Scout Merit Badge - Carpentry. And what you made would get you that MB - no problem.
