LCG RACCOON THREAD!!!!!!!!

Postby caseydog » Tue Oct 19, 2010 7:56 pm

Every year we talk about the raccoons at Bisteneau. And every year we have people who go to LCG and have their food eaten by raccoons.

SO, this here is an official LCG5 Raccoon thread.

Raccoons are a problem at any campground in the South. But at Bisteneau, they have the boldest raccoons on Earth.

Bisteneau coons will damn near walk up to your galley after dark and eat food while you are cooking it.

Bisteneau coons can open any cooler, any Rubbermaid container, any container that opens, and is left outside at night. You can put straps around it, put it in a pick-up bed, or hang it from a tree. Bisteneau coons will get it, and open it, and eat your food.

Bisteneau coons will raid your galley while you are sitting at the campfire, ten feet away.

However, as of now, Bisteneau coons can not break into a car. Give them a few more years, and they will probably figure that out, too.

Rule: When the sun goes down, make sure your food is inside a closed galley, or is inside a closed (and locked) car.

If you are worried about gators. HA! Forget the gators, worry about the raccoons.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!!

CD :D

Can I get an "Amen."

Amen is right! This is what they did to all my unopened soda's in this cooler. Sliced open every one of them but not the beer. This was at Ft. Clinch SP. They were surrounding my son and I while we were trying to eat our boiled crabs. Very determined little buggers!

Raccoons in Louisiana like anything that is edible, or even close to edible. I think they go for the beer first, which makes them willing to eat damn near anything they can chew and swallow.

Bottom line -- if a coon CAN eat it, they WILL eat it. And at Bisteneau, they will eat it right under your nose.

So, you have to be smarter than they are, which can be a challenge after a few beverages.

:) The BlueBonnet Tear has never been bothered by raccoons at LCG. You have all heard what I think is the reason! BLUE LIGHTS, baby, BLUE LIGHTS. 8)
It is either that or they all remember the turkey incident and don't want to be blown up!

Danny, will the Rangers be playing at your site this weekend? Dave has been watching every game.

Man why do the coons get blamed for tearing up everything

It's called "animal profiling" and I think we are much too fast on blaming a whole group of animals for the acts of a few. Who knows, it could be a lot of random damage by a marauding band of squirrels who have a beef with a racoon and want him to take the blame.

Or possibly a teardropper who didn't adequately stock his/her cooler and needed a midnight snack. ("They'll just blame it on the racoons. Hey, is that a waffle dog to go with my beer?")

But maybe we should come up with a color based threat level system to display at the parks . . .
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

Since I'm going on the snipe hunt, I was wondering if the snipes are a problem with coolers too?
