New in SE AZ

Postby Mstoffo » Tue Oct 26, 2010 9:56 pm

Posting up as newbies in Sierra Vista AZ

Matt, Suzanne, and our 9 yro daughter

Looking to get involved and get into a teardrop

As we explore what to get, build or buy we are trying to gather info and hope to meet some local folks who can help guide us.

I'm a govt worker, on the side, I make glass beads, marbles and do some knife making as hobbies so no engineering, machinist skills but also not completely unable to make something. However this also means we already have little free space in the garage.

We have lived all over the USA, and want to travel and camp with our girl without feeling like we spent the night getting beat with sticks after sleeping on the ground.

Suzanne has a thing for vintage trailers and living small.

Anyone in or close to Sierra vista ?

Welcome from Avondale, AZ!

You are there, so that's one more than I would have guessed! :D

Seriously, you just missed a gathering in Tucson, which is probably the closest city to you. I know there are a few in Tucson, but I don't know anybody in Sierra Vista, I'm afraid.

There's a gathering in Why, in February, I think.

Yup, just looked it up. Feb 18 - 20. Coyote Howls, Why, AZ.

There's a short Route 66 run that starts Nov 10th, and ends up at Cabelas, or some folks are just going straight to Cabelas. The Cabelas deal is Nov 13 - 14.

Welcome Matt and company, I went through Sierra Vista last year with my trailer and streetrod, camped at Bisbee and was on my way to Tucson. See you down the road.

Welcome from the Midwest (We sorta like KAMO, Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.) There are a bunch of us around this area. We love the high desert and are planning a long trip to the Grand Canyon before I get to old to mule down the little ravine and back...    Teardrops are great, but so are vintage rebuild standees.......TTT are also embraced by our area. What ever you decide to do get yourself to the gatherings. So many with so much knowledge. So many builds. Have fun and see you along the way... :applause:

Hi, Matt & Suzanne,

Greetings from another AZ member albeit one without a trailer yet. But, I'm designing and ready to build a TTT with a popup of a size that might fit a family of 3 with a little reconfiguration. And, of course, there are many variations that you might find interesting on Andrew's Design Library linked at the top of the forum page.

Hi, I had the same problem, we are three, ( with a seven year old daughter) and we needed a slightly "oversized" teardrop, so far I am very pleased with it ( and my wife gave it the thumbs up, she being the main reason I built it..too many health issues), the trailer I used was a 6x10, and I made a " bunk bed" over the wheel wells, works very good as it doubles as storage for blankets and such.... check my build thread to see if that is something you would like to make....but again, there are a lot of excellent builds over here, it's a matter of taste.

Welcome to the group. You'll have alot of fun here. I bought my first TD because I didn't want to wait to go camping. Now my son and I are going to build one.

Welcome from your neighbor in Tucson . I have a finished product hear and if you would like to come see it one day the garage is always opened so to speak . I did my own plan it was a bit hard to figure out alone . I found this wonderful site A bit late on my build It could have saved me lots of time and a headache or 2 . So if you are here you are off to a good start at that .Good luck
