Got two for you.
First one was about 2 years ago. I just got home from a horrible day at work. Murphy's Law was alive and well. My personal cell phone rings with an "Unknown" number. So why not I felt like letting off a little steam. A girl was on the other end, she introduced herself then started talking about magazines. With this being a girl I now couldn't go into ripping her a new one for my pleasure so I quickly came up with an idea. I sat down at my laptop to try to get the prices of a couple magazines I actually did want. I asked her about one for american cars to try to stall her while I hunted the price of GM Hightech and Pontiac magazines. She read them all off to me then I hit on the GM hitech. Asked her if it had a lot of pictures. She read off the description of it and I asked again about pictures. I could tell she was doing her best to find out more about it. She told me about it's articles etc, and I again hit on pictures. I then asked about the Pontiac Magazine. Once again asking about pictures. I was like a broken record. When she read the part about detailed articles I acted to cry. She asked if she upset me then I busted out, "I need pictures! I can't read!" After her trying her best to calm me I did get the two subscriptions and a free subscription to Parents. Compared to the prices online I paid between $1 and $3 More for the two subscriptions than the cheapest prices, but still lower than the yearly price on the cards in the magazines, and the free subscriptions was half free, with the first year free second you pay. All in all I had fun and I think she did too. Good transaction.
Second call was earlier this year. I was one of those calls where this girl wouldn't take NO for an answer. She had my phone # and my Address and wanted me to "TRY" their products. When I realized the only way to get off the phone would be to just hang up I decided to try something. "You sound cute, What are you wearing?... Where are you from.... I bet you have Brown hair..... Are you tall?.." Etc Etc. I was clearly making her uncomfortable but she held in there, dodging my questions. After she wasn't making any progress she said in order to get me the Best possible deals she would have to get her manager on the line. This was a guy. I think she got tired of dodging and decided maybe to let him have a try at me... He started his spiel then I answered his question with "What are you wearing?.... etc." He replied with "hey I'm a guy" So I don't care, I bet you're cute.... He hung up.
When it comes to Telemarketers I have fun. Step outside of your own comfort zone and have a laugh. You never know how the conversation will turn out.
