Who knows Spiders?

Postby Woodbutcher » Sun Oct 31, 2010 4:38 pm

I saw this guy go past my shop door. He was maybe the size of a quarter altogether. I tried looking to see what kind he is but found nothing with a body like this. Here he is...

Please don't tell me he is a jumping spider cause I was right down in his face for the picture!

Either that or call the exterminator. Who wants a spider or bug problem.

There's the flaw in your reasoning, those spiders actually help reduce the problem of flying bugs around the yard.

Spiders eat bugs. No spiders = more bugs.

I like spiders. Except black widow spiders. I don't actually mind them, just not close to the house.

We have lizards in our yard. Dozens of sideblotch lizards.

We don't kill the bugs because they are the food supply for the lizards, and I enjoy the lizards.

Every year we get the brown recluse spiders and every year we have to get the house and yard sprayed so you have to understand I have no love for spiders.

Hopefully, that isn't your hand?

I don't think we have those out here, but I feel the same way about black widows. They have their place, just not in my house.

I just about bought the farm from being bitten by a brown recluse... Sickest I've ever been in my life and even after life saving treatment, it took about six months for the wound to heal.

If you call the exterminator to get rid of the spiders, they will probably get rid of the rest of the bugs by default, you can't really kill them selectively. I've done my pest control for years and found that spiders are pretty hard to kill.

Never had any cockroaches, ants or scorpions, but I'd get silverfish when I slacked off on my intervals. Spiders were always came back quickly. I swear we had every kind of spider at our house. We had those huge brown tarantulas to those small black and white polka dotted jumping spiders and everything in between.

Just an update. I let this guy live. Took his picture as he motored past my shop door. Had I found him inside my shop he would be in spider heaven. My dogs spend lots of time in my shop and I can't take a chance with them getting bit. My daughters dog was bit by a spider and was sick for some time. So if you are a spider and are reading this post. STAY OUTSIDE MY SHOP!
