Off to surgery my thumb goes

So after my accident in July when I amputated 1/2 my left thumb while working on the teardrop (most expensive and biggest "whoops" ever), it has not healed well. I developed VERY painful neuromas and have very little movement from the over tight muscles and constant firing of the nerves on the muscle. Think how it feels when your arm is asleep and just starting to "wake up" combined with a permanent charlie horse and you have my thumb! Anyway, I am off to surgery tomorrow to fix -revise it. I am ever hopeful in about two months I will at least have 1/2 a thumb that is pain free and at least somewhat function.al Be careful with those radial arm saws!

Sorry to hear that . This is never the outcome you hope for. But with new treatment comes new hope. We are all hoping for the best for you. Soon you will recover to finish the teardrop and get to go out and relax in the woods a bit.

I'm sending you many good thoughts and well wishes for your surgery. I had a screw placed in my right ring finger at the beginning of October to "staighten out a problem". I'm feelin' some of that pain and hope that yours will be nothing but history soon.

Good luck with your thumb. My wife had thumb surgery 4 months ago and she's now back to work. She doesn't have 100% normal function yet (still stiff) as no matter what they tell you it takes much longer. It took me 10 months to recover from rotator cuff surgery. If it's a Sears Radial Arm saw of the 70's vintage they had a buy back program a few years ago that I took advantage of. As a Cabinetmaker I have no need for a radial arm saw, they are dangerous. Debbie I feel your pain and your in my prayers. I lost part of the left handle middle finger 11 yrs ago to a Hobart high speed cutter while working for a pizza place. Had to have 6 surgeries on it but it has healed and just aches when the weather gets crappy. You will get better and after time get more use out of that 1/2 thumb as your body compensates for it. Keep us posted to how your doing.
