Texas Aggie bonfire cake

Postby planovet » Wed Nov 03, 2010 5:22 pm

At LCG, the campfire conversation touched on the Aggie bonfire (imagine that). Since the bonfire collapse in 1999, it has not been officially sanctioned. But back in my day, it was a rite of passage to work on the bonfire.

When we got married, Cindi had the groom's cake made up to look like the bonfire. She even made the little outhouse on top (even though it's more Tennessee orange than Texas orange). I mentioned it at the LCG fire but I forgot who I said I would send it to. So I'm posting the pics here for everyone.

I was wondering why the water balloon was getting bigger... and then it hit me.

Neat cake!

The collapse happened about a year after we moved to Austin. At first we thought, "how can people get killed building a bonfire?" then we saw the pictures and how big it was. The Statesman also had an article on the heights of the bonfires in the past, that thing is huge.

Cute cake.

Who are the fresh-faced all-american kids in the picture with it? :R
