Who knows Spiders?

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

If you run across a Black Widow ANYWHERE. You need to ALWAYS, ALWAYS kill them. NEVER EVER let them live.

You do yourself and others a dis-service by not dispatching them. They are as dangerous as a poison snake. You would never let a copperhead of rattler live near by, same goes with poisonous spiders.

Brown Recluses are probably more deadly. They lurk in dark areas so always be aware when you're in a tool shed, barn, wood pile etc.

These types of spiders are NO GOOD TO ANYONE. :x

KILL THEM.

Actually, I would let a rattler live nearby.

These were taken a few miles from my home. We (my son and I) had to shoo the sidewinder out of the road so it wouldn't get hit by a car.

Nope, maybe 6 ft away is all. If you know the characteristics of the snake (how far they can strike, how fast they are, etc) it's pretty easy to stay safe.

It also depends on the weather. When I was installing my garage door opener sensors, I didn't notice that there was a baby rattler 6in from my hand. When i saw it I screamed like a girl. It was pretty cool so it was pretty sluggish. I ended up catching him alive and putting it in a plastic box.

Before we moved in, we saw one and told the front office. They didn't believe me so I caught one alive to prove a point. When it warmed up in the afternoon, it was pretty pissed off. I saw 2 more rattlers and those met the end of my shovel.

We had indigo snakes in FL, they were huge and scary (saw some that were 6ft long) but you wanted those around. They would eat rattlers and other poisonous snakes as well as rodents. I didn't see them as much as I used to because they became endangered. The last one I saw was one I accidentally ran over with the lawnmower.

Fact: Snakes can strike half the length of their body.

Ex: A 6' snake has 3' striking radius.

Killing a spider aboard a boat is bad luck.

 Unless it's a Black Widow spider. Those are the only ones that I kill anywhere I see 'em, inside (heaven forbid) or out!

PS. Add Brown Recluse spiders and Scorpions to that list of 'kill on sight'!

I have wanted to see a brown recluse for a long time. Not in person. This is the best picture I've seen. Can you tell me what size it is. Like body length. An expert said there no brown recluse in SC, but I would like to be able to recognize them anyway.

Black widows, scorpions, poisonous snakes, and wasp are exterminated on sight at my place. Inside or outside makes no difference. We do encourage the rat snakes, garden spiders, geckos and lizards to hang around and feast on any bugs and rodents that happen along. The tree rats (squirrels) are the biggest problem at our place, mainly because of all the pecan and oak trees. They even seem to have a "meeting hall" in the large sycamore.
