Great time in life for kids to have fun with football. That was a fun trick play and they certainly sold it well.

But read some of the comments. The reason why there is a debate is because that's an illegal play in high school, college and pros. It's almost the equivalent of calling time out and saying - psyche! Lol

The wrong ball trick is illegal in organized football and is supposed to be penalized as unsportsmanlike conduct. Any action or verbiage that leads the defense to believe the ball is not going to become live "need a new ball", "have the wrong ball","we need a tee" etc and then you run a live play is a penalty.

I'm sure the coach was yelling from the sidelines, "You have the wrong ball! Give it to the official!" or something like that to sell it. The QB probably very loudly told the center that he needs to give the ball to the official, was "handed" the ball, made eye contact and walked directly towards the official.

The flip side is a safety issue. That kid could have gotten his clock cleaned out. He was walking straight up. What if the DB didn't buy it and came full speed from the blind side? The QB was not at all in a protective running position.

But as I said, at this age it's just fun and takes me back (many years) to my youth.

  And someone needs to follow the kid who chased him. Heads up on his part. It still is very fun.

Hands down IMO, this is the most famous trick play ever. Well designed to meet the rules and with everything on the line in a National Championship game no less.

That was great whether a legal or illegal play. 'Let them play', sort it out later after the fun.

I can understand this initial reaction because it seems so "fun". But look at that play again. Every one of those defensive linemen came out of their stance, relaxed and stood up turning to the side because they thought play was dead. And technically if this trick play were legal, every one of those offensive linemen could have at that point fired out and blocked these unsuspecting kids, and the contact would have been right at the knees.

I can assure you if you hear the sound of a knee shattering your response would not be, "oh that was so cute, let them play and sort it out later after the fun." Especially if it was your son's knee. There are reasons why the sport has these rules. I'm just letting you know.

A lot of assumptions of what was being said by who, who was tackling who, broken legs...what about the GOODYEAR blimp falling out of the sky. Lighten up ... 'let them play', came from the Bad News Bears movie. I'm sure the post was for entertainment if you found none then ignore.

Since you wanna be ignorant and turn this into a pissing match, what you write is what your write in your post. So deal with it. I have no idea of what's going on in your head and what silly movie you're playing in it.

And I'll ignore what I want to ignore whether you think I'm entertained by it or not. All I stated were the rules and why they exist. This is based off of facts and not some obscure PG movie in my head like you.

Geez people. Can't you just watch a video and see the humor in it without posting all the negative comments? How sad.
