future teardrop builder in Maine

Postby boatyardgirl » Mon Nov 08, 2010 9:29 am

Hello to all!
I have decided to stop lurking and join!! After a few days of camping in the rain this fall I want something warmer/dryer to camp in. I started searching and found this site. LOVE IT!!! I havent settled on a design yet (because my ideas change with the wind) but I will be starting with an old popup frame. Already know I need more ground clearance and space to sleep 3. So I am leaning towards the bigger 12ft designs. Knowing how we like"stuff" this should be an interesting build, cross breed teardrop and gypsy caravan.

Hoping to hear from any and all on ideas ,info, dreams and such! Amanda

Thank you Butch!

Thank you for the warm welcome! I am finding tons of info on here. Bouncing around ideas in my head and picking parts out of the shed! With winter coming and no heated garage it will be spring before we start building. Unless I can figure out a way to fit it into a corner at work..... I work in a small marina with a big heated storage/work building. My husband is helping with the collection of supplies and has pointed out many things we already have. I will keep reading and learning!! Many thanx Amanda

Hopefully you can get a little bit of space at work. After all, there are lots in common between tears and boats (my last boat was a Cape Dory 25). I would think the boat owners would really enjoy watching your build.

boat/camper space

Postby boatyardgirl » Sat Nov 13, 2010 7:56 am

Nice to see another Mainer!
Butch- Cape dorys are beautiful little boats congrats!
Sadly I dont build boats but fix and repair daily! People love to hit rocks for some reason :? Boats are a perfect way for anyone to see how many things you can pack into a small space. If you have a marina near you stop in and ask to look. Most people LOVE to show off their boats. Never thought I would want to own a boat after working on them but bought my first fixer~upper this fall. 21ft seaway w/ 50 honda. To bad I wont be able to pull a camper and a boat at the same time!!
The breakdown of the popup camper has begun.I will take pictures and post them when we get the rest of the project started. Amanda

Welcome to the playground, Amanda, and good luck on your trailer build and boat restore. There are probably half a dozen (maybe more) teardrop owners in Maine and the numbers seem to be growing, especially this year. Have fun!
