You should be! They came out beautiful! The door looks really roomy in the pictures, easy to get in and out through. What is its width? What are the dimensions of your build? It's bigger than 4x8', isn't it?

Thank you Sharon for the nice compliment.

My teardrop is 5' wide by 4' tall by 10' long. The doors are 30" wide and about 36" tall at the top of the arch. I wanted to make sure that I could get in and out of the trailer. (Bones and joints start creaking around the half-century mark and I passed that milestone a few years back.)

Take care,
Tom

Thomas,

I'm more than happy with how they look, but am still on the fence as to whether or not they are worth the money. The Beatle has been built on a "pay as you go" basis - some of the reason it is taking me 2+ years to build - so I guess in that sense, I'm okay with the cost of the fenders.

I've been putting together ideas and estimates for a standy with inboard wheels and tires. Eliminating fenders and painting/powdercoating will really save a lot of money.

Take care, Tom

Tom the Silver Beatle looks fantastic, in fact it's starting to look like it will be camp-able soon.

Tom, That is my same mentality, once things are bought and paid for, they become worth it, because the money is already gone. I think most Standy's have inboard wheels and that is definitely what I am doing too, and under the bed is the perfect place to hide the wheel wells! Give yourself about a year of solid camping before starting though, you gotta enjoy this beauty for a while before donating your weekends again!

Tom the Beatle is looking beautiful! I sure am looking forward to seeing it in person, and March seem like a long way away. I guess I'll have to build a custom cover for all of mine, to save embarassment.

Hi Tom, man is she looking great! I'm thinking of using those same door hinges on my TD. My doors will be about 36" H x 33" W x 1" D with a 16" x 20" sliding window. Do you think 2 of those 6" hinges would be enough to carry the door weight?

Beautiful beautiful beautiful!

Love the look, impressed by the planning, execution, and attention to detail. I just finished reading all the pictures (and many of the words) in the whole thread.

(On the other hand reading a build thread like this really hits home just how much work is involved in a top-notch build)

After watching A&M beat the heck outta t.u., eating way too much food, and spending the day yesterday at Lake Ray Roberts, I finally made my way out to the garage on Sunday.

The mission was to complete the trailer lighting. At least that was the mission. First up was to install the rear side marker lights. To get working room, I had to roll the SB out of the garage.

Image

After drilling a few holes, the rear side marker lights were installed.

Image

The last lighting piece to install before wiring was the license plate bracket/light. While I was drilling holes in the hatch, I went ahead and installed the hatch lift handle too.

Image

With all the hardware installed, I started wiring everything.

Image

Mission almost accomplished. I'm about 90% finished with the trailer lighting. Then it is time to hook up the Silver Beatle and take for her first spin around the block.

 Take care, Tom

You are really close to done! That's exciting!

Ya know, with your license plate ID, you could call it the Lynx instead of the Silver Beatle. HaHa!
