I have always wanted to play with steam power I even built a small engine in high school shop class. But the idea of playing with steam under pressure always scared the crap out of me if I remember correctly 3 psi of steam has about the same amount of energy as 150 psi of air.

You might want to research stirling engines as well, could be a good alternative for running your altinators.

I don't think ther're enough BTUs in one or two candles to produce the amount of steam pressure you'd need to turn one alternator let alone two.

That's my uneducated guess.

The difficulty will be that it is not likely to be very compact and will use a great deal of fuel and more water. Easy way would be be to use a turbocharger to drive the alternators. This is similar to the steam driven generators on steam locomotives.
Working with steam is dangerous!
There was a man killed driving a Baker steam tractor near here a couple of years back. he did not keep the water level up sufficiently over the tubes and went up a slight hill, when he hit the level the water sloshed over the superheated tubes flashed, and the boiler exploded, (escape valve can not handle that sort of volume) and killed him and sent shrapnel a 1/4 mile.

the hot air is good and all but I was more thinking towards getting rid of grey water by evaporating it and since I'm looking at using the emergency candles for it I just thought that if I could get it to turn a steam engine then that would be an added bonus by giving me some electricity in return to recharge batteries
