I went down to JRR on Saturday and checked out the group areas. The one I checked out months ago is the best but not up to our standards. The other two group sites are very rustic, probably because they are prone to flooding.

I wanted to take a better look in the riverside west park but it was closed up for the season.

The area in riverside west that I picked out is site numbers 14-25. Sites 5-10 and 26-28 are very close and can be used as overflow if needed. Reservations are open on December 3 on Recreation.gov.

El Dorado Lake was alright and had some really nice areas. The nicest ones were very close together but at a gathering I wouldn't mind. I wouldn't want to camp next to strangers that closely though. Overall IMO there are better locations to have a gathering but it would be fine for a stopover or fishing trip.

Today you can reserve for Friday but not Saturday. Tomorrow you should be able to do both.

I'm determined to come up with a name for the gathering. I'm leaning toward - Tallgrass Prairie Rendezvous - (Thanks for helping Nathan)

Tomorrow I'm going to try and get site 18 for the weekend. Sites 14 -25 are all in a group, somewhat. Other sites are close enough that we can use them as overflow.
