Hello from Oklahoma

Postby billajunk » Tue Dec 14, 2010 3:16 pm

I'm a newbie here. I have to say I've been interested in a Teardrop for awhile. I actually built one (pretty basic) that I love. It took about 3 months of spare time and had it's maiden voyage in mid November of this year (2010). I began a little website with a few pictures you an see at www.junkfamily.net/teardrop . Let me know what you think!

Welcome to the forum! Good job on the Tear. Where did you end up going for the maiden voyage?
Be sure to check out the South Central Thread for upcoming gatherings in our area.

Maiden Voyage

Postby billajunk » Tue Dec 14, 2010 3:55 pm

It was a simple overnighter to Lake McMurtry with some good friends. We used to camp together when we were Boy Scout leaders and they kept up the tradition. It was a cold night. At bedtime, they were snuggling down in their tents, rain fly's and cars. I hopped in the teardrop, turned on a ceramic heater on low and had an enjoyable evening of sleep. I do have to say I'm getting rid of the air mattress----they never warm up. I'm awaiting delivery of foam cushions that will make the sleeping much more comfortable.

Thanks for the comments! I love hearing about other users of teardrops. Hard to believe how many comments the neighbors made and how all the heads turn on the highway as I'm towing!

Great job. You put alot more attention to detail in yours. I'm proud of what I've done but I was anxious to have a functional camping trailer in a hurry. I'll probably always work on it and improve on it.

Hey Bill ! Welcome from a fellow Oklahoman ! Welcome to the forum and to the best group of camping friends you'll find !

What part of Oklahoma are you from ? I'm near OKC and we have a few here and others near Tulsa. Next big campout is down at Beavers Bend at the end of March and we have the whole Buckeye campground already reserved so plan on joining us !

Thanks for all the welcomes and nice comments. You all have done remarkable work on your teardrops. I've seen some great handy work. You're all to be commended.

I've camped at Beaver's Bend before and loved every minute of it. Looks like your full this time and will have a good group!

Jewel, I noticed some nice rain guards above your doors. Where did you find those?

Welcome to the forum Bill. You might check out the Northcentral area also. Though we're not as active as the Southcentral group there is a pretty active subgroup called KAMO, Kansas Arkansas Missouri, and Oklahoma camping friends. We're having a gathering at Natural Falls State Park OK last weekend in April.
