Things that don't fit anywhere else...

I'm not much for funerals. I have gone to a lot of them in my 64 years.

You have seen the signs the funeral home puts out by the road when someone dies...

"slow funeral"...well, have you ever seen a fast one...lol...

A friend of mine died at an early age a few years back. he picked out the songs for his memorial service and he said "I want it played load enough to wake the dead" and they did. Here is the one that I remember the most.

Doctor and The Medics! I haven't heard of them in years!

Norman Greenbaum still hold the record for best take of Spirit In The Sky...

Hmmmm  Take one large blender...add a dolop of Alice Cooper, a cup of Gene Simmons, a cup and a half of Adam Ant and a sprinkle of Norman Greenbaum and there you have it.....

Doctor and the Medics!

As a child of the 70's I gotta say the 80's were one "Wild and Crazy" ride!

Well, to each his own, but I like the Dr and the Medic's version better, I just don't like looking at them. But, if your dead what the heck..lol

I have a few of my favorite songs that I would like played at my wake when the time comes:

I Can See Clearly Now by Johnnie Nash
Hey Baby Won't You Be My Girl by Bruce Channel
Still The Same by Bob Seeger
Long Cool Woman in A Black Dress by The Hollies

I have actually thought of making a list and have a CD cut.

We'll Meet Again by Vera Lynn.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHcunREYzNY.

As when the song was popular in the early 40s, we really do not know what is ahead. Faith is strong. Current conditions can be quite unpleasant. We'll meet again some sunny day.

You better mind yer parunts, an' yer teachurs fond an' dear,
An' churish them 'at loves you, an' dry the orphant's tear,
An' he'p the pore an' needy ones 'at clusters all about,
Er the Gobble-uns 'll git you
Ef you don't watch out!

Funeral Dirge

Postby eamarquardt » Sat Dec 18, 2010 10:12 pm

"I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better (when your gone)" By the Byrds.

I've glimpsed the darkness at the end of the tunnel. Not gonna get out of this alive. No funeral, PARTY!

Cheers,

Gus

When I survey the wondrous cross

Postby Jim55 » Sat Dec 18, 2010 10:14 pm

The oldy will be sung.

as in this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDkuxEIcpdI

I like the following words:
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.
Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,
Save in the death of Christ my God!
All the vain things that charm me most,
I sacrifice them to His blood.

You can show this at my goodbye kegger, if you are not too drunk.

Awe heck, show it anyway. All my family and half my friends won't get even if they're sober.

Like many of you I don't want a funeral but would love all my friends to have a cook-out and play a few songs
ON THE ROAD AGAIN by Willi Nelson
SHE STOP LOVING HIM TODAY by George Jones
HIGH UP ON A MOUNTAIN by Vince Gill
WISKEY RIVER by Waylon Jennings
BLUE by Patsy Cline

then everyone can pplay what ever they want

And I like the idea of "Freebird" and "Stairway to Heaven"

And an open bar...drinks all around!!!

I don't think, in general, that a funeral should necessarily be a sad time.
