Transforming Apartment

Postby SmilinJack » Thu Dec 23, 2010 7:02 pm

Space does not come cheap in Hong Kong. Architect Gary Chang lives in a 344-square-foot, one-bedroom apartment. But, it has all the amenities of a full-sized house. How is that possible? His apartment literally transforms. It can be put into 24 different configurations. This is something you have to see to believe.

I checked this out on yahoo news a couple of months ago. He is a genius. I wonder if one could do this with a camper

too much work for the benefits - have you ever wondered why all tiny house folks are single?

I find that to be the work of a genius due to the nature of space over there. We don't have to do that here but without kids, why not? Sure would allow for more trailer parking in the yard.

going all out like he did is one thing, the idea being what makes him a genius. I could see facets of this design being incorported elsewhere.

How about an apt building that is designed using this idea, so that a single wall moves to open the bedroom out into the living room? Could easily mean fitting more apts into the same size building, which could mean more affordable living here in many places in the states (not that I think it would be "affordable" at first)

How about designing a house so that the living room and/or kitchen expands when needed for entertaining?

His design does not necassarily need to be duplicated. The idea has been around a long time, but his execution of it is what makes it "the better mousetrap".

When you wash the floor in 1 room, its automatically washed in the next. I could learn to like this.

Way to think inside the box.
