bowed spars

Postby seahorse » Wed Jan 25, 2006 10:19 am

POOP! :o After installing the ceiling, I noticed a couple spars bowing up  about 1/4" in the center. Will this cause a problem with the roof skin? Should the bow be belt sanded? Thanks

SeaHorse-

Better for them to bow up instead of down!

Seriously 1/4" up, will probably settle down by the time you get it sheeted & skinned...

I can't see it from my house

Cheers,

Coop

Seahorse, sheet aluminum will not take a compound curve without wrinkling...so if you plan on skinning in Al, save the supreme headache/frustration later and sand now....

Thanks Goldcoop and Madjack, I will wait to see if they settle. If they don't they will be sanded, as aluminum will be used.

I had the same problem. The bowed spars will cause a problem if you plan to put a skin on the shell. Unless the skin is very pliable and elastic.
