My attempt at building a Teardrop...........

...ask your questions in the appropriate forums BUT document your build here...preferably in a single thread...dates for updates, are appreciated....

Not making much progress on the tear......but am working on getting a warmer place.........I've got an old house on my property that I've been slowly trying to turn into a garage/shop..... it looks like a garage from the outside.....I put sheet metal on the walls and roof and installed a garage door........The inside is a different story......am having to take out the wood floor and some walls....... can't afford to pour a concrete floor rite now..... so I'm covering the ground with some Shell that I'm getting from a nearby strip pit.....am getting close to getting a workable area for my teardrop :worship:

Lloyd,

I bought a two-gallon kit and had about a half gallon left over. (As I understand it, it has a long shelf life.)

My teardrop is 4' tall x 5' wide x 10' long. I put one coat on the bottom of the trailer floor - on top of two coats of CPES - and two coats on the exterior ply walls and roof.

First thing I did was lightly sand the ply, filled the screw holes with Plastic Wood, then sanded the fill, followed by the epoxy. This picture is after the first coat of epoxy:

Take care,
Tom

I got the 3 gal kit from Raka. I used ALL of it on my woody. Even had to get a small can from West Sytems for a few odds and ends at the end of the build.

Tom's advice is always top-notch and should get you at the very least in the ballpark or more than likely nail it.

With epoxy, or most any coating, total surface area coverage is always a guesstimate. It depends on the absorption rate of the substrate, how thick you apply it and how many layers you apply.

Consulting the manufacturer is also a good idea.

Well its been a while....... I'm getting pretty close to completion... mostly like installing the hardware....door hinges, roof vent, etc.....
Had a few mishaps with my epoxy and paint(they don't mix)....got the brite idea to mix some red paint with epoxy to give it a red tint (BAD idea, looked good but wouldn't dry for crap...stayed tacky). Ended up sanding that off, but left a little red in the woodgrain..I thought it looked a little like red cedar, so I left it like that and re-epoxied over that........some might think it looks like crap, but I think it looks pretty good....Will post pics later............................

Cool paint job! I love the wood grain showing through and red happens to be my favorite color. I am also lover of a creative "off beat" kind of style. Keep it-- all that matters is that you and I like it. Greg likes it too!

Lloyd,

You need to change the thread title to "Not and attempt....I DID IT!"

Good work. I like the finish too. Wish mine was as far along as yours is...
