Yay tupelosue! :applause:

I have been trying to get a teardrop theme camp together for years. I am a fifth year Burner and see teardrops every year, just not in the same place. I was at 3:25 and Istanbul this year, right near the Neverwas Haul. There was a Little Guy right down the street.

Chris Dunphy and Cheri have an Oliver fiberglass trailer and set up camp Nomadia every year. They are so nice.

As for getting a place to camp, you have to register your theme camp early (usually around May or June) and the BM group gives you an assigned area, usually closer to "downtown". I prefer to camp around I and 3:00. You are protected from the wind by the rest of the city and you are far away from Nexxus and the other raves. But even if you don't have a theme camp, someone can get out there early and stake out a place. Burners are very accommodating and share everything.

Here are a few of my photos from this year. I should have a video up soon.

Tickets for Burningman Jan. 19th

Postby cuyeda » Fri Jan 14, 2011 11:05 am

FYI

Tickets for Burning Man 2011 go on sale on the 19th. If you are serious about going this year, I suggest you get your tickets sooner as they are cheaper than waiting.

http://tickets.burningman.com/

Is there a group here that is planning to try and get together?
I am considering the event, but time and $ are a main factor this year.

Cliff, Shelly and I are planning on going for sure. I'm going to try and see if I can get an assigned space for a Theme camp, or else be there on Day One to claim enough space for a Teardrop Group.

Ticket costs go up as certain price levels sell out. Once in the gate, there are (almost) NO OTHER expenses; you must bring in your own foods, water, etc. You can buy ice, and coffee/tea/lemonade at center camp. There is a certain amount of gift/bartering economy that goes on as well.

Other expenses relate to costuming, camp decor, etc, that can vary widely depending how "into it" you are. First timers are allowed a low key approach...

Name ideas for a Teardrop camp: (the airstreams had Burnstream Court)

TearBurn Court
Burndrop Alley

Burning Tears
Flaming Drops
Flaming Tears
Trailer Trash Camp

Not very good connotations, eh?
Other ideas??

Sue, a couple of stray thoughts. The first is Tear Jerkers, BUT that name is used for an existing group and there may be an objection or two.
Here is one totally off the wall, The Provisional Peoples' Democratic Republic Of Teardrops.
Don't forget your lamp and an extension cord

Name I propose is

The Mobile People's Democratic Republic of Trailer Trash, or Teardrops, or something like that.

I been reading the rules. Does someone have a vehicle we can turn into an "Art Car" so we can have some wheels?

Or get RocketGirl to bring the Rocketear.

;)

Unfortunately I am becoming more immobile as the years go by. Not nearly bad enough for a wheel chair but long distance walking is pretty much out. All my fault also

Ok, so a bending of the rules

Randy, I think that's as good a reason as any to stay home!! Usually they are slammed at the beginning, and you may be in-line online for...hours perhaps. I've developed the mindset that I'll pay the extra 40 bucks and buy it after the opening rush.

Re the art cars, great idea, but must be submitted to the DMV (dept mutant vehicles) for approval, blah blah blah.

Another good idea is bicycle with electric/gas motor. Don't think they have rules about those. Last year I saw a lot of Segues out there. Not sure how they are Locked up, because when you're out cruising around you often stop, leave your wheels, and go climb or explore some piece of art, etc.

I took a little scooter one year (yamahopper 50cc) which was decorated, before they had the DMV approval/permit process. It was great while it worked, but seemed to need a lot of gas. (i realized later that perhaps I hadn't been turning the gas switch off/on) altho at the time I thought the carb was getting clogged from the dust or something.

Look thru photo galleries to see pics of art cars, some are very simple and creative, others very complicated!!

Hey Sue

I been reading a lot on the BM sight. They do have handicap permits, but need to have one in the first place and I am no where that bad, but i do have a few months yet to go.

Don't worry, I won't go if I think i can't handle it. If I do go and no alternate way to get around will lower my expectations of what I can see/do and the length of time I stay. Just long distance walking is hard. I might have to build me a little chair to take with me so I will always have a seat.

What will probably really keep me away is that I am broke and need to work.

I live in the Southern Idaho desert and am somewhat use to deserts ( but not the playa ) I first found out about the Black Rock Desert way back in the 70s and have always wanted to see it. Heck maybe I'll just go some other time. Or go up to Oregon to the Alvord. Smaller but along the same thing.

Sheesh it's getting deep. Didn't know I would need my knee waders for the desert! (but apparently need them around Idaho farmers.)

Hey, Randy, how are you (other than you don't run marathons any more)? Missed drooling moose with you last September. (or is that why you can't walk?)

Maybe you could get a Farmall down there to ride around town.

Not sure I would enjoy going to a Burn (too many people), but I might like the place when no one else was there. Might be passing through your neck of the woods this summer, will give a shout if we do.

Hey John. I missed them shrimps on a barbie.

If you come this way this summer better bring your waders, I am back driving a manure spreader.

At least it is honest work, not like working in Dell.

I sat for 8 years in Dell and you have seen me. Then last year my last good shoulder packed it in. Is better after the fix but only better, not perfect. O well. If i end up in a chair I will really be in a pickle, bad legs and arms.

Guess i will just have to go camping anyway

I dunno what the big deal is about Burning Man other than the "man" sculpture getting burned, we burned one at the Glyphs (Cap'n Jack)....just show up at any No. Cal gathering and dress up in costume if ya want, no one would squawk , or stupid chef pants, act like a Yeahoo and "burn" whatch'a want....lots less miles...

Dean: A burning tear paints a much worse mental picture than Randy's manure spreader...and don't combine these two... :o
