Hi, My name is John Palmer and I have been reading your build posts and felt it was finally a good time to jump in.
I'm on my third Tear Drop at this time.
Trailer number one, was a 1992 "factory built" 4x8 Mac-Bilt. My son Troy, purchased it very used and we cut the front of the frame off and rebuilt it for a storage box. It was rewired, installed a battery system, etc. We kept it for a few years, and resold it as his family out grew it. It was a great experience, had fun towing it to Bakersfield for our drag racing camping.
Trailer number two, was built from modifed plans on this site. It's loosely based on a Grummen but was "Supersized" to 5x10 and the wheels were moved to the outside to give more room inside. It was also increased by 5" in height, the maximum size that will fit in his garage since his HOA will not allow outside storage. The trailer was built with a full storage box below the bed to store E-Z-Up and chairs, etc. I built the trailer and body in four months and towed it 300 miles into Baja Mexico to watch the Baja 1000 offroad race for it's maiden voyage.
Trailer number three is currently under construction. It's a 4x8 KIT based design to tow behind my 1932 Roadster. Frame is done, powdercoated, and ready for the trip to the DMV for license. The body is done and is currently being skined with .040" aluminum. It's about a month from completion.
Thank you for this informative site.
