Hello from Manitoba, Canada

Hi there!

I found this place because the last trip I took on my 1100 Yamaha was a blast - except for the camping. I was towing a home-made trailer that was so hard to take down on the chilly mornings that it was NOT fun!!

This year, I want to camp in comfort - minimal set-up and take down. I love these teardrops, but I'm not sure any of them are light enough for me to pull with an 1100.

I have been looking for a while now, and decided that I should just ask the 'experts' on here! Are there any trailers out there that I can pull?

P.S. I'm female, over 50, and not very good at building...

My 1200 goldwing handled "Eggbert" a 3x5 cargo on a 40 x 48 HF frame.

This was an early picture ~~~almost 5 feet was added to the tongue and to level the towing height I later replaced the 12" tires with 8"'s to make towing height level.

I am currently building a 4x7 on a very light 125# all aluminum frame. I have towed it also and it seems to be very well mannered as well.

Two things must be mentioned braking on 2 wheels is very touchey. Any water, spilt oil, or gravel could have dire consequences in a panic stop. You have to ride like you are on snow and ice in these conditions.

The second thing the trailer must have a very very exagerated tongue to minimise side load. When one trailer wheel drops into a pot hole or swale it tends to flip the tongue sideways. You will swear someone grabbed the handlebars when you wern't looking.

I am setting the 4x7 up as a sleeper only teardrop. I will use a 10 x 10 pop up over it as the "Living room" when camping and the trailer will be the bed only after unloading the cargo.

Thanks for the info!

Do you have plans for the 4x7 or are you just 'winging it'? I am not too sure that I have the capability to build one, so was hoping to find a place that makes them really small and light.

Hi Manitoba!
I don't know if you have taken a look at the teardrop built by Lil Guy but the Rascal looks like it might fit your needs. Weight is only 490 lbs and 50 of which is on the hitch ball. Check out this web page:

Hi starkayak,
Welcome to the forum! I was born in Winnipeg and graduated from high school in Wawanesa way back in the dark ages...the late 60's...right in your neck of the prairies.
I'm attempting to build my teardrop trailer with the help of No. 3 Son. Some days I think I can, other days I think I'm crazy! Hope to be done by late spring or early summer.
I hope you're able to find something that will work with your motorcycle and your budget. There's lots of folks here to give you sound advice on anything teardrop-related.
Heading up to Winnipeg on the 19th to see Harry Manx in concert with my niece. Should be good. I might even get my accent back, eh. ;)
Take care,
Lil M.
