Slide outs.

Anything to do with mechanical, construction etc

Postby Kevin & Sandy » Tue Feb 08, 2011 1:27 pm

There is often a shelf over the place where most teardroppers have there feet at night. So maybe there is only about 18" to 24" of space for the foot of your bed. Wouldn't a slideout of that thickness be much lighter than the one pictured above?

You know a slideout the width of the bed but 2 feet tall (Or less) as opposed to 4 feet tall.

Now THAT would make people wonder what that thing sticking out was for !!!

I like this thinking. KISS!

The drawing I have in my sketchbook right now has a large percentage of the side coming out, following the profile. I wasn't planning a hatch or galley, or shelving.

I have plenty more time to think, since the groundhog and I didn't get along this year, and I have yet to see a raise from the boss.

Perhaps this weekend I'll build some light models to practice my Glass-over-Foam building principles.

Which may inspire more thoughts...

Indeed, Cowboy. I'm grateful for every day I wake up on this side of the grass.

I'm socking away cash as I can, but the process is slow. The bosses keep stringing me along with the promise of raises, and when one happens, Teardrop time will be getting a little kick from Doc Brown...

In the mean time, I took a look under my kitchen table, as my wife frequently stands on it to change light bulbs. Ten feet of slide to put the leaves in, it must have SOME secrets...

Your slides won't really have to hold up much weight at all, the outside jacks or braces will hold a lot of the weight, and see that there is no vertical movement.

What the slides DO have to do is prevent any horizonal movement (front to back of trailer) as you toss and turn, which will mess with your seals.

I think you will find that your slides don't need to be super strong at all, but they DO need to be tight.

if you did a boxed shape slide out I'd do the top a little thicker so that on the outside you'd have a shelf to place your Bbq and if it was done right you could have shallow storage space underneath it

Coca Cola teardrops did a slide out that worked wonderfully.

I am sure they would be happy to share info with you.

That TD is amazing. Wonder how they sealed the slide out from rain when out or in?

RE: Slideouts

Postby mezmo » Sat Feb 12, 2011 10:27 pm

Hi Kevin & Sandy,

This is more of a slideout than you were mentioning but I'd
think building a larger one can't be much more work than a
small one.

Image

There are more pics of it in my Album.

I'm guessing it may be a 5wide.

It's a homebuilt that looks to be halfway between a TD and a TTT.
[It's from the New Zealand Auction Site " Trade Me...".]

I am working on a ttt with a slide and will start a build topic soon but the way I did it is pretty simple and cheap and it won't need any outside supports. Also extremely easy to operate. Here's a pic of the framework. I will be happy to go into more detail if you want.
